Looking inside yourself is fraught with danger. If you are honest you see a whole bunch of stuff you may not be all that keen to acknowledge.

No matter how much you wish for it, the sun does not shine out your bum, and to most people, you are an anonymous face in the crowd.

When I think about it, I have lived a pretty stupid life. Made some shocking life choices always believing I could control what I was getting into and then discovering I had no idea of what I was doing and my partners knew that too.

The result of that was a whole lot of misery and conflict.

It was doubly dumb on my part as I had no idea I was inflicting pain on the people I thought I loved and cared for.

It turned out I was a source of…

The More I Drink

awriterssoulblog's avatarA Writer's Soul

The more I drink the more I don’t think about you,
So shot after shot, let it down, burning its way to my heart.
Because there’s nothing wrong with wanting to not feel like this,
Nothing wrong with wanting to escape.
Because numbness has to have its benefits, right?

Maybe one day I’ll look back and laugh at how silly I handled it,
But now, in this moment,
All I can think about is how to forget you and the way you made me feel.
And yes, the alcohol loosens my lips,
Helps me to see past mine and yours, past the ghosts that haunts us,
It lulls me into a false sense of security and I’m content to hold onto it with every part of me,
Because it’s easier than admitting that this is everything to me,
And how it holds the power to define me in every way…

COSMIC SHIT

Intense!

NEKNEERAJ's avatarExposed Emotions

How often I wish to chop you up,
smudge you down,
wrap you in a paper towel,
and smoke you like weed.
Do this once, then repeat.

I know the ways one rejoices pain.
Extract pleasure out of misery, entertain in ways inhumane.
No, I don’t need cocaine.
I’m already high.
I’m always high.
High enough for you to contain.

Why?
‘Cause I’m made of stardust.
I am born to do epic cosmic shit.
I’m a parade of indefinite meteor shower,
And that’s just not it.
I’m hollower than black-holes.
Mightier than solar flux.
I’m hard to comprehend.
Harder to omit.
Swinging in a level way beyond ordinary,
I’m a celestial mess, vomited amid stars,
trying to draw sense out of it.

And how I wish I could slit all your miseries.
Wrap you in a paper towel,
And smoke you like weed.

How often I wish to pry…

mindlovemisery's avatarMindlovemisery's Menagerie

Core Beliefs.jpg
For this challenge I want you to examine one of your core beliefs. Some possible examples “Man is basically good.” “No one will ever love me.” “We grow through adversity.” “Everything I do is pointless I am just going to fail anyways. ” It is better to be kind than right.” You can illustrate this belief in a poem or story or you can tackle it in a psychological/spiritual discussion. If you choose to go the discussion route please include how this belief has benefitted or hindered you. If it hinders you consider a healthy/alternative perspective. Do you know where this belief originated?

ABIGAIL’S ROSE

Weary from tending her feverish child, she sank into her rocking chair. The baby, who had howled with pain most of the night, finally calmed. Abigail Adams caressed her daughter’s silky head and kissed her cool cheek.

            “Sleep, now, my sweet Suky.”

Suky’s four-year-old sister tiptoed into the room. Abigail stopped rocking and held out a hand to her. “Can you not sleep, Nabby?”

“I dreamt the angels plucked a rose from our garden.” Nabby patted the baby’s back. “Is she feeling better…
