Alike

Alike ….. by Aishwarya

kittysverses's avatarKitty's Verses

From his cosy corner,

Unknown to any,

Prying, waiting for an opportune catch,

Conjuring a menacing guffaw,

At each tremble,

At each conquest,

Immobilising instantly,

Time less to realise,

Time less to retaliate,

Those overpowered,

Recounting tales of apprehension,

Recounting tales of losing comprehension,

Shades of courage fails,

When shades of confusion flourishes,

Spirit of strength,

Making an unheard appeal,

Not to lose heart,

Not to succumb.

Heard but unseen,

Known but unacknowledged,

Casting its net,

In minds of many,

Alike,

In bright light,

As much as in,

In silhouette of darkness,

Lurks phantom of fear.

Love Letter (A rewrite)

michnavs's avatarmichnavs

“Never did I ever receive a love letter in a scented paper in a heart-shaped
envelope from you, but ours could top the greatest love story ever

your handwriting may not at all be easy to read
but you write with great measures and  surprises instead
always, almost a perfect Hallmark Valentine’s card
not copy-pasted all original; sweet and endearing indeed

a forgotten expression,
a forgotten love?

you spent hours thinking,  and writing over again just to say
that your first kiss was so blissful it makes you fall  and stay
that the thought of it makes your legs felt like jelly at stray
such as love’s effect on you, so true but cliche

a forgotten expression,
a forgotten love?

oh, how time flies by so fast,  your pens and papers are no longer at stake
no drafts, no rewrites, no humiliations for heaven’s sake
for now, you can…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #148

I am inspired by the following words and offer the same as a writing prompt for this week.

  1. Silhouette
  2. Shade
  3. Phantom
  4. Spirit

Phantoms

insomniac mind
plays a trick
you hear
someone
crooning a lullaby
nothing but
a phantom wind rustling
the curtains
even that you try to cling on
phantoms are better
than nothing

Silhouetted?

depends

on which side you are

Shade

always black and white

life for me, no shades of gray

missed fun  undoubtedly

Spirit

mind, body or spirit

a unique creation or

just, a fusion of cells

Parental Passages

Parental Passages ….. by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Carefully we construct
security for offspring –
add luxuries to entertain
accommodate growth
play host to revolving-
door friends and dates.

And yet, we are graded
on performance – met
or unmet expectations –
held up against a stack
of other super parents,
silhouettes of perfection.

Still, we celebrate goals,
sprouting family, ignore
the slanders, and ease
into age with a tad of kook,
or wild inappropriateness –
all expressions of our love.

Faerie time

Faerie-time ….. by Punam

paeansunplugged's avatarpaeansunpluggedblog

shivering moon’s shadow pales

in the silhouetted hoary vales

the stars silently dim their light

the drowsy flowers unaware of the blight

in the fog dreams quietly fade

as a fey spirit hides in the shade

the woods inhabited by a phantom shape

a fae, maybe! who knows who is behind that verdant drape.

Silhouettes against the sun

Seventies dancing has begun

Campfire poets sing their song

“Why can’t we all just get along?”

Smoking weed and carrying tunes

One of many evening Junes.

I am inspired by the following words, and offer the same as a writing prompt for this week.

  1. Silhouette
  2. Shade
  3. Phantom
  4. Spirit

No, you don’t have to use all four. You can use one or more of the given words in your piece – poetry or prose.

You may use the following images or poem by William Wordsworth as additional inspiration.

~*~

The spirit silhouetted like a phantom in the reflection

Looking back I see just an ordinary woman standing

Can I be dreaming the impossible dreams

Or this the reality always hidden from the obvious

In the shade of towering ego, hide a delicate soul

Trying to break free and be noticed for a change

Ambition

Ambition …
By Goutam Dutta

gdutta17's avatarGoutam's Writings

Silhouetted against the evening sky
That was rapidly changing shades;
From vivid yellow to
Shades of grey,
He sat.
In his hand he held balloons
Fitted with twinkling lights;
Lights that blinked;
Sometimes slow,
Sometimes rapid,
Evidently to soar
A child’s spirit.

The balloon seller boy
Gaped at the balloons with pride
and admiration.
The twinkling lights of the balloons
that he held in his hand,
were like the stars that
he always wanted to reach for!

The Silhouette On The Shade

By Tessa Dean

Full moon glowing on my shade.

Funny silhouettes it sometimes made.

Was that a phantom I glimpsed in fright?

The moon’s glow disappears, reminding me it was night.

Spirits roam through my house.

Quiet as a church yard mouse.

Back to sleep I must go.

Too many distractions you know.
