When freedom calls …. by Jude Itakali

judeitakali's avatarTales Told Different

Until we know freedom, it is a scary place to be
For it is neither here nor there, but everywhere
She is born to freedom
It is all she has ever known
And where it goes, she will follow!

Upon a fledgling soul
play the colours of choice
that fade with adult noise
grey scripted ways

When freedom becomes home, it conscripts the human heart
You fall in love with it
But love is dangerous
It frees, yet also enslaves.

The girl would hold on to that blissful moment of unblemished choice
But the years would change her
In the bloom of youth, she would discover
that nature was the embodiment of freedom
Yet nature was endangered
And so began her metamorphosis.

mistress of the wild
nature calls you to defend
her crown weighs heavy

Upon a flaming head
was sat a twisted crown
and ńeath her rubied gown-
vengeful…

some Biblical characters and states of consciousness

Some biblical characters and states of consciousness..
By Audrine Maxden

Audrine Max's avatarAwakening Imagination

sometimes i do
find myself
in the state of Job
rebelling against God
the law
demanding to be justified
for all the good deeds
i’ve done, asking
where is
my divine retribution
but self righteousness
is the voice of hell
and in hell
all is self justified

at times i’d find myself
at the state of Elijah
with all the power
and might
in my chariot
riding the peaks
of disciplinig the mind
more spiritual
and intellectual knowledge
i reign supreme at
but compassion and love
i have none
but wrath and anger
are pronounced
ah- the glory
of Elijah’s state

thank God
for the grace
of my imagination
like this beautiful maiden
Iam constantly redeemed
drawing golgotha out
of my own bondage
and limitation
in a state of Moses
Iam pointed the way
to fuse with the vision
of my imagination

these are all
just states of consciousness
that…

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

BBC TV is showing a documentary film about a Kenyan woman in search of her father, just to know her roots. I wonder how excited or crestfallen she will be on finding a character or past she cannot identify with.

Maybe she finds the origin of a few physical or temperamental traits; yet feel bewildered by other things. She has grown up with a personality of her own – something she may never want to be otherwise, whatever her roots or history.

The past holds the potential to be a festering wound or a scar. It’s tough to kill the past once it becomes known. Those buried thoughts can re-emerge, like skeletons tumbling out of well-polished and organized cupboards.

Angela knows what she has done and takes pride in it.

Her mother was the victim of a patriarchal culture, but strangely wanted her daughter to live the same life. A…

He glanced casually at the TV screen, always switched on for background noise, and jumped up pumping his fist in the air, “Wow! What a beauty and she has just thrown her hat into the ring to compete for leadership of the party. She has my vote anytime.”

His wife looked exasperated, ” so, an unknown wants to become leader, and according to you her main claim to leadership is her beauty. Give me a break”.

Her husband’s fragile ego, starting to take a beating, responded vehemently, ” It’s not only her looks, did you hear her speech, she is so eloquent, passionate, and that melodious voice, it could sink a thousand ships”.

At the supper table later that evening his wife observed.” I looked your candidate up on Wikipedia. Her name is Leonore Charybdis, she’s of Greek descent…

For Those Who Dare

For those who dare ….
Hats off to Merril for writing this.

merrildsmith's avatarYesterday and today: Merril's historical musings

Roses and shoes under the bust of Sophie Scholl: By no bias, Wikipedia Commons

For All Who Dare

How scared they must be—and how brave-
the women who dare to bare their hair—
and all who battle not monsters, but men,
who protest, write pamphlets, drop flyers–

the Plaza Madres, the White Rose students,
those with forbidden books, those who share
their knowledge, truth, the oxygen
that inspires and fuels their desires–

the feathered hopes on wings, phoenixes
that singed still soar to sing—everywhere–
riders on a bus; a girl with a pen—
swirling spires of dragon-breathed fires

rising—beware—they dare!
Not if, but when. Then they do it again.

For dVerse, where Björn’s Meeting the Bar prompt is to write a bref double poem. You can read more here. I’ve put the unrhymed line first: xabc, xabc, xabc, ab.

When right is wrong

When right is wrong ….. by Punam

Leaning too far right makes them maniacal
everything is either black or white
they are impervious to the greys
with scant regard for inclusivity.

Their brain goes through a change that is chemical
irreversible is the damage done
common sense it, for sure, waylays
replacing it with typical perversity.

Quizzical looks don’t affect their hides political
they brand others as anti-state
erratic, jumbled and bitter their ways
what do they know of diversity!

lackadaisical in work but their beliefs fanatical
with them around doomsday is neigh and everyone pays.

Written for dVerse MTB. Today’s host, Björn, has invited us to try our hand at a new poetic form bref double. The rhyme scheme can be

axbc-axbc-axbc-ab
abxc-abxc-abxc-ab

I have followed the former. Check the site for more details.

I have used words from Jane’s random word generator.

Moonwashed Weekly Prompt – Transcending

they called her an evil woman
yet her transcending beauty drew me in
red, fiery locks promising danger
her spikey halo protecting her power

remember what will happen
should you cross me

slowly she lifts the box to reveal the skull
of the man who dared to lay claim to her

remember that i am stronger

Poison Sumac

Poison Sumac ….. By Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

Venom Sedative better known as Poison Sumac is a seductress just like her sister the genius scientist and meta-human Dr. Pamela Isley, who we all know as Poison Ivy.  If somebody refuses to do her bidding, she will give them a rash that will last as long as three weeks.  Unlike her sister, Poison Sumac was not a meta-human, she was a witch of trouble in electric blue and in her own mad mind she would be in love with you.  She had some kind of demon messing in the glue and if you don’t watch out it’ll stick to you.  She has raven hair and ruby lips; the moon is in her eyes and sparks are flying from her fingertips.  She was practiced at the art of deception; you could tell by her blood-stained hands and that box that she always carried around with the skull inside of it. …
