The clouds refuse to part
the sun is under siege
this eclipse – supposed to be a gateway
for authenticity to emerge on the other side
seems eclipsed by the real world
screens scream
political opinions loom large
on sanity
The Indian Meteorological Department
housed in a brick-and-mortar office
close to where I live
fails to capture signals or
tell why the weather is still cloudy
I dream
of life on the other side
till a mosquito’s buzz
attacks my eardrum
to say it’s not true
whatever it is
that I’m thinking of
conspiracies abound
theories fail to match up
raindrops fall like sharp arrows
on unsuspecting ground
a fancy umbrella flies away
windy climes reign
the sun is still under siege
I don’t mind the Moon or stars
or the rare line-up of planets
but they seem eclipsed too

I think about how people from millennia ago would have witnessed these celestial events too, and wonder how they felt. Their world would have been far less cluttered. A thought-provoking poem.

They must have interpreted it differently. I’m sure those were as spectacular as always.
Thank you, Freya!

I’ve witnessed two total solar eclipses in the past 10 years, and they were surreal. I imagine that even in adverse conditions it would be so.

Of course. The sky is beyond our reach, so we can’t spoil anything there. Water bodies and the Earth are groaning under pollution.
Thank you, Ken!

So much awfulness in the world right now. The photos I saw from Iceland of the eclipse were spectacular. A much needed opportunity for wonder.

Planets follow their predetermined paths. Humanity does not know where it is going. It is tough to draw parallels. This is just a reflection.

Reena, I had no idea about the eclipse happening today; thanks for writing about it. Here the eclipse seems to take on the metaphor of an unshakable mood. The following song came to mind:

Thanks for sharing the song! Gloomy and pensive, yet it strikes a chord somewhere.

We were just out watching the 80% eclipse we had here in Sweden.

Seems we both wrote about eclipses.

We had a solar eclipse a long time ago, and it made the sky go almost black for a few minutes. We didn’t look at the eclipse directly since that would cause damage to our eyes.
What an evocative poem, Reena! 👍

Thank you, Aptivi! A solar eclipse is happening today, but it is not visible in all parts of the world. We can only see its impact on the weather.

You’re most welcome, Reena! You’re right, we can only see the impact on the weather forecast. 👍 Today’s eclipse is not visible where I live.
