I will meet life at a point
where I finally embrace
myself
like a new acquaintance
sans preconceived notions
without a care
for public opinion
or a legacy
-yet the footprints
will speak louder
than those squeaky shoes
I discarded in a previous version
Unlocking Self-Actualization

I love the depth in this, Reena. Beautifully done.

The analogy of the squeaky shoes and the footprints really works in this poem, Reena. I’m still thinking about it and wondering what squeaky shoes I have, and which footprints should take their place.

Those squeaky shoes were uncomfortable for sure 😂

A deep and meaningful quadrille, Reena. It’s always a relief to discard squeaky shoes. The beginning reminds me of the Derek Walcott poem, ‘Love After Love’.

That paradox at the heart of it not caring about legacy, yet the footprints speaking louder that’s the whole truth of authenticity. When you stop performing for an audience (including yourself), that’s when your actual impact crystallizes.
The squeaky shoes were doing all the talking anyway, it’s the silent footprints that change the ground. 💜
