I am embarrassed to admit I once joined a coaching class to learn Microsoft Office. I was ridiculed at home because everybody else learnt on the job.
I am not ashamed to say that I have seen life before the internet and mobiles became inextricably linked to our existence. We have witnessed typewriters, cassette players, vinyl record albums, DVD players, and video cassette recorders.
But I don’t use them now.
I’m learning to examine my thoughts and words to check how many emanate from the past.
I can’t find a junk dealer to buy them, so they must be reprocessed.

such is life indeed.

I am sure we all have the same experience. My items are now obsolete at 5 years old, no new software updates and equipment incompatibility seem to happen too often. At least with the old typewriters they keep on working.

You are so right about that. We get ridiculed by the young for using so-called “outmoded” devices.

I liked the idea of nobody – not even the junk dealer – wanting certain items – such a realistic story here

These days no one should ever be ashamed about not knowing something or trying to learn it. These days you have to be constantly learning just to stay current. It’s a whole different world from even a few decades ago, just for that.

At the age of 53, I now realise I can not accept any more technological information without dumping something else. I’ve decided to increase my spending on records and try to remember how to write with handwriting slightly better than a doctors. Good stuff.

I guess the effort applies to everything.

Wait are you selling your thoughts or your old machines to a junk dealer? It works both ways. I have a few out of date thoughts that need a reprocess.

Old typewriters have their uses, just like the older generation.

We may be glad we kept the old typewriters if the grid ever goes down for any length of time. We’ve lost a lot of the old skills while learning the new.

Some years ago, I saw a TV program about the last typewriter repair person. He was an old gentleman, as you might imagine. I can only believe his craft has died with him.

Now they would advise you to junk old machines.

I still say radio drama is superior to TV. On radio, the scenery is better

Radio is seeing a revival here with people spending hours in commutes.

Dear Reena,
And who among us of a certain age doesn’t relate to this? I also remember black and white television. 😉 Love this piece because it’s so relatable.
