Terminus

Two-timing winds sweep across seasons
I wrap a shawl around my shoulders
as tourists camera-chase a moving beast
dark-listing swift leopards as they smile at
omnipresent, boring barasinghas

The forest is no easy place to be
when clouds shield a late-coming sun
I stretch my palms to see what I can catch
Streaming down between the leaves
I catch nothing more than disappointment
etched out by thorny twigs on the Fate Line
as the SUV speeds by on rocky patches

I won’t even try to extend an uncertain lifeline
unsupported as it is by a web of disbelief
peace-brokering agreements with truth
I’ve reached a terminus where lights are dim
just enough to cross the borders of life

P.S.

Barasinghas are 12-antlered deer dotting the forest landscape
