“Grandma, you missed a note”, chimes a sweet voice.
It’s one of the kids who attend the same music class.
“Thanks for taking me in, Hank! I was turned down by all music classes for my age.”
“You are doing fairly well. Just keep at it.” Hank waves at her as he guides another kid on the piano.
Only she knows she came here to build bonds. The music and kids fill up empty spaces caused by her husband’s death.
It’s great to be a beginner, even at the fag end of life.
A page on her diary flutters…. Zzzzz

When there is a void in life, sometimes music is the answer. Lovely story.

One is never too old to pick up a new art: music, drawing, painting or dance.

I keep telling David to go for lessons so he can learn all the notes and keys and all that. See, you’re never too old.

Accompany him, or find him good company. That’s a bigger motivator when you are beyond a certain decade 😊

Reena, this spoke to me in a special way. I taught myself to play the piano when I was 10. Always longed to have lessons, and finally, now, at age 76, my longing is fulfilled. I’m taking lessons, and I love it! Learning all the things I should have learned from the beginning, breaking bad habits that I didn’t know I had. I totally empathize with Grandma!

Good to know your experience, especially when you succeed. I’d like to learn painting – cubism kind, not the kind of pop art I do.

That’s how I feel about writing, except I need to find the right kind of teacher and lessons.

You’ll find all kinds of courses online, but communities give a different feel.

So good to be proactive and reach out and extend yourself after losing your life partner. Such a lovely story.
Best wishes,

Thank you, Maria! A recently widowed acquaintance shared this with me. The story emerged from there.
