Beginner

“Grandma, you missed a note”, chimes a sweet voice.

It’s one of the kids who attend the same music class.

“Thanks for taking me in, Hank! I was turned down by all music classes for my age.”

“You are doing fairly well. Just keep at it.” Hank waves at her as he guides another kid on the piano.

Only she knows she came here to build bonds. The music and kids fill up empty spaces caused by her husband’s death.

It’s great to be a beginner, even at the fag end of life.

A page on her diary flutters…. Zzzzz

  1. Reena, this spoke to me in a special way. I taught myself to play the piano when I was 10. Always longed to have lessons, and finally, now, at age 76, my longing is fulfilled. I’m taking lessons, and I love it! Learning all the things I should have learned from the beginning, breaking bad habits that I didn’t know I had. I totally empathize with Grandma!
