It was obvious that somebody had been looking for something, which was valuable. It could either be of material value, or hold a clue for the investigation. The cops turned the place upside down once again, but found nothing that spoke the language they were so eager to hear.
The little mynah was the only living being found in the basement. She looked straight into their eyes, to catch their attention, and appeared eager to speak. Inspector Pandey was totally exhausted. He held up the bird to the camera,
βRecord the sound, Anu! Maybe she knows something that we donβt.β

Oh, so very clever, Reena.

Thanks. Hold something by the neck, and the mouth will open. Eager to speak “Let me go”. π

Oooh wish I knew what the bird said! She’d definitely give them some clues to work with for sure.

Dogs are known to guide cops to the right spot. They should have allowed the bird to hop around, rather than hold her tight, and make her scream in resistance.

Ah I see, so holding her would have caused her to scream and it would have been futile to record it.

Short and concise! Well investigated. I do hope they listen to the “stool pigeon”.

Good pacing of the story, Reena. You give us a descriptive opening paragraph. In the second paragraph you home in on the detail, the mynah bird. And in the last line, you give us the pay-off. Nicely done.

Not sure the utterings of a bird would be considered evidence admissible in court, but it might turn the investigation in the right direction.
