Keeping Me Awake At Night

A deeply reflective piece …

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

I do not feel pain, well I am just really good at ignoring it, so that never keeps me awake at night.  I do not have insomnia because of depression, anxiety, mental illness or stress, as I am a pretty well rounded person, that hardly ever gets nervous or irritable.  I do have sleep apnea, which is often linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke, and this caused me to snore constantly and loudly, till I got my CPAP Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine, but I am good now.  I have some other medical conditions like type II diabetes and I assume that one day I may develop Parkinson’s disease, as sometimes I can feel my hand shaking.  I live in a gated community with a bunch of old people, who are always quiet and respectful, so they are not keeping me awake at night.  I guess my…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 4 – His Own Longing

Michael's avatarMorpethroad

It was knowledge he craved

Realising there was so much to absorb

He spent a lifetime chasing it wherever he could.

There was no doubt the longing lived inside him

He tried his hand at so many things

Discovered a love of words and the shapes they might take.

He wanted his words to sing, to play out

So, he wrote for performance

Both musical and play.

Always there was the hunger to go that bit further

But more than once he found his limit reached.

It was then he knew it was time to change tack

Try another approach, find a new audience.

His goal became to engage his readers, titillate them

Have them question their own responses to his words

Could and even would they see the longing within him.

It was never words for the sake of words

When that happened, he admonished himself

Reminding himself that…

A simple life, a happy home

ladyleemanila's avatarLadyleemanila

When I first left home, was daunting
But managed to experience life
That lasts

I met Him Indoors in the lab
The beginning of our love
Not end

Then HRH the son was born
After seven years of marriage
Our joy

We live in our house with garden
Three tortoises named Gin, Rex, Nik
Our pets

A simple life, a happy home
Stable jobs and good health for us
Our goals*

HOPE!

Mick E Talbot's avatarMick E Talbot Poems

I BEG FOR HOPE!

hope,
there is
only one evil,
humans! nature will be
rid

what
will it
take? a tempest?
natures fighting for her
life.

humans,
beyond hope,
heeded, not have
we. warnings, explicit, nature
screaming

natures
not battling,
just making right
our wrongs. nature giving
hope

whatever
your religion
there is one
who won’t be denied
nature

hope,
a long
term future in
nature does reside. stormy
weather

we
can help.
stop pollution now!
we’ll be giving nature
hope!

can
i make
a promise not
to beg for hope
no

Exploration Challenge 3LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT

By Neel Anil Panicker

Remember students, you need a fantabulous vocabulary… eschew, virago, déjà vu, venal, rectitude…you must be able to roll off the meanings of these and words even more tougher in a jiffy, without batting an eyelid.

Besides, your understanding of the grammatical syntax needs to be perfect; modifiers, subject-verb agreement, adverbial clauses, conjunctives, subjunctives, hypotheticals, gerundial nouns et al.

Remember, you can bell the CAT if and only if you are the undisputed King of the Queen’s language.

If you do so the doors of the best B-schools will open for you. Otherwise…

Seated at her desk, two rows from the back, Roshni simply stared out to the front,

her face lost of all emotions, head bobbed to one side, eyes hooked to the front, transfixed at the white board and the man in…

AN ACROSTIC – OUR ABILITIES DISCOVERED

Amazing acrostic with that length!

Mick E Talbot's avatarMick E Talbot Poems

Exploration Challenge 3

OUR ABILITIES DISCOVERED

I beg on behalf of the human race re. our effects on mother nature.

Help is what she needs, her abilities slighted
Atrocities committed by man impeding her adventure.
Verily, all things are so bad, and by us must be right’ed.
Exceptions none, to right our wrongs we must venture

Understanding the perils of pollution,
Now, we must pursue, and not relent,
The abilities we have to aid nature’s reconstruction
Abilities we have and could be used to repent
Problems we inflicted on nature’s natural evolution.
People of the world must unite and show their good intent
Employing untapped abilities to find a positive solution
Discoveries they will find, on their way, their time well spent.

Attainable, well maybe, but it must be a future without corruption
Belief in our abilities to create a…
