Reena’s Exploration Challenge Week 48

Welcome to Week 48

Today’s challenge is fairly simple.

Just use the given sentence somewhere in your piece – poem, story, anecdote, memory, quotation or anything else. You may choose to just take the theme, and not use the words in your piece.

She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it……

At least on the outside. No burns were visible, no scars, no charred flesh to show the pain bound deep inside. Fire was her natural habitat. Fire, in fact, had long ago ceased to mean anything in her life. She no longer felt the burning on her skin, flesh melting like watercolors in the rain.

Once damaged, nothing mattered but that she walked firm in the world, head held high, eyes fixed before her, forever towards the horizon. Survival. Survive the fire. Survive the looks, the horror, the memory of what she once had…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 49 – We stopped checking for monsters

ladyleemanila's avatarLadyleemanila

We stopped checking for monsters under the bed
When we realised they were inside of us
It’s up to us how to tread
We can’t be blameless

We still believe the power of atoms
Which are held together by electrons
Our source of energy one can say
Surrounding us in every way

The cycle of life in our journey
Children born every minute
People returning back to heaven
Continuation of lines or trees

The changing of the sky each day
Each day different we really can’t tell
One day bright, next day grey
Still mesmerising like a spell

And the humble stone, do we use it
As a stepping stone or throw it to someone?
Do we stand or do we sit, eat or sleep?
And the dust, do we leave it or sweep?

Hot Stuff

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it, which leaves me with three possibilities of how this occurred.  The woman had this mysterious skill which allowed her to become the strange fire walker of Borneo.  She started out walking barefoot over a bed of hot embers or stones and kept pushing the limits of physics, till her whole body became completely resistant to any flames.  There were other fire walkers around who were able to limit the amount of time that their feet were in contact with the hot coals, staying below the threshold time where it was not long enough to induce a burn, but she was a whole level above her competition.  Maybe this chick who played with fire and did not get burned was just someone who not burnt out, meaning that she was not completely exhausted due to being overworked.  That brings us…

Code of Ethics for a good Financial Planner

I was pushing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) course in 2002, and it was not a very successful venture. It was seen as a concept, whose time had not come. The career path for CFPs was, and is still not clear. I scanned job postings for CFPs, and found only a few wealth management firms … Continue reading Code of Ethics for a good Financial Planner

She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it……

——————————————————————————————-

Whenever mother, reciting Epic Ramayana  in her enchanting way came to this part:

‘She walked through fire but was not burnet by it burned.‘, and thus proved her chastity.

But we never got beyond this.
Other parts were not interesting for me.

We will indulge in argument, no , discussion as we both were on the same side.

It was hard to  believe that Lord Ram with his perfect, par excellence character, equality and liberalisation for women and in particular his love for Sita could ask her wife to enter the fire to prove…

“We often confuse what we wish for with what is.”

I’m suffering from the dyslexia
of emotions
always getting confused and
bewildered
when the pain crosses the boundary to
get mixed with the love
when my longing  for the company is
oft met by your absence
and a flurry of excuses
for us to be apart

I’m suffering from the dyslexia of emotions
when the intense passion
and desire longed by my heart
gets confused by the mere
entanglement of our body parts

I’m suffering from the dyslexia of emotions
when my attempt to surprise you
and  feeble attempts to win your heart
gets lost in the incessant
screaming and shouting
tearing us apart

I’m suffering from dyslexia of emotions
when every feeling of joy
of togetherness
gets mixed up
burned,
and gets scarred.

I’m suffering from dyslexia of emotions
when joys and pain are hard to tell apart.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge – Week 48 – She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it

ladyleemanila's avatarLadyleemanila

week-48THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “Among the Rocks” by Robert Browning: gigantic, simple, bones, clear, bask, knows, knees, throes, ripple, gain, heap, earth

She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it
She took a gigantic heap and has won
Life’s a big adventure, she’s to admit
There’s always an action and reaction
What’s clear is she has to try and never quit
On this earth life is wonderful and fun
Bask in the glory and learn the lesson
Be in control and carry the burden

She kept on walking through the fire and how
She got burnt sometimes, throes of pain and hurt
Some ripples of ups and downs anyhow
Gaining or losing even with effort
She knows she can harvest what she has ploughed
Simple as that as long as she’s stalwart
She has got a bone of contention
She’s enjoying her life that’s for certain*
