Cooking in the time of Corona

A refreshingly different piece by Usha 🙂

Drive away cooking blues, add a dash of imaginary zing, there is no way out, no restaurants, no takeaways or any other such savior.

The Whistle blew, loud and piercing, not once, but 2, 3, 4 times…..” Is anybody listening, I have alerted, now let my voice die down”.

The Pressure Cooker sizzled,” I am all hot and cooked, I need to vent!”. The Pan, sitting close by coughed,” I can feel temperatures rising, I am sick and shivering with all the bubbling. Distance yourself, you hot Cooker, your steamy droplets are getting to me”.

The Chimney laughed wickedly,” fanning is my job and looks like I am doing it perfectly”.  Pril, the cleaning liquid, offered kindly, “Cooker and Pan, pour me in and gargle me out”. “I am ready for a rinse with you”, Clear Water gurgled,” else be quarantined in the attic above”.

क़िरदार से हम हैं

we are characters in a story
where fate lines don’t intersect

I hope you will alter lifescapes for us
to be locked in together, you refuse to connect

Give me a reason, a space to live
my life needs a new architect

You hold court, but I’m not let in
No claims to your throne, eager to be a subject

If love is a gift from the universe
Why am I embarrassed, circumspect?

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #138 — Intrepid We Go Forth

Intrepid we go forth ….. a villanelle by Jade Li/Lisa

Lisa or Li's avatarTao-Talk

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are players.
They have their entries and exits” — Shakespeare.

Who we are is learned behavior.
Reinforced by repetition
Institutions’ sour savor

Us v. Them a favored flavor
Cooked by gluttons’ craved ambition
Who we are is learned behavior.

Taints our sense like toxic vapor
Fairy tales teach with precision
Institutions’ sour savor

Villains slain and who’s in favor
Rulers make the best decisions
Who we are is learned behavior.

Scales askew for misbehavior
Death or cage are poor’s perdition
Institutions’ sour savor

Kings walk free and stroke their sabers
As we yearn for manumission
Who we are is learned behavior.
Break the chains, intrepid sailors!

I decided to do another villanelle in response to the prompt. Reena, thank you for yet another evocative prompt.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge # 138- Our roles

Who are we ….. by Sadje

Welcome back to another week of creativity!

PROMPT #138

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are players. They have their entries and exits” famously said, Shakespeare.

Shakespeare got it all wrong. Life is what we choose, and everything else is just existence.

Well, I just noticed that Shakespeare has not used the word “life” anywhere. The Master knew what he was talking about.

All you need to do is just think about how the above lines gel with or rub against your thought process. Then, start writing and there you are with your piece.

We came

We saw

We conquered!

Or did we?

We come, as in, are born but have no choice in where and when.

We live a life which, for the early part, is pretty much pre-decided for us. Then there comes a…

Hours, without a muse,

Strikes like a bolt of lightning,

Fluidly grasping,

Brainstorm at opportune time,

No stopping writer within.

Thanks for Reading

Thanks for reading ……… by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

This platform is shaky,
I must confess,
built of co-dependent aims
carnival life expectations.

Still a steady hand
and a weeping heart
good writing companions make
or, so I tell myself

You see, despite clever musings
I’m as guilty of denial as the next
and as far as clarity goes
I’ve been myopic forever

Guess, I’m trying to say
that without an audience
I’d be nothing – and so to you
this blogging community – gratitude.

Writing

Writing ….. by Punam

paeansunplugged's avatarpaeansunpluggedblog

Somedays…

words pirouette and tantalize

then bolt and disappear

syllables naughtily roll off my tongue

refusing to be counted correctly

thoughts are a jumbled ball of yarn

wickedly inviting me to unravel

ideas flit around like birds

tempting me to cage them

similes flutter on the edge of my mind

metaphors evade my grasp mockingly

I let them be

On others…

words string themselves into sentences

to flow seamlessly from my quill

thoughts and ideas are coherent and concrete

falling neatly into words

similes and metaphors adorn my writing willingly

nary a sign of delinquency

respecting the process

I try not to force the flow.

PROMPT #137

I give below three phrases

  1. Writer’s platform
  2. Writer’s Cave
  3. Writer’s Reality

Choose one or more to elaborate on your writing journey – not necessarily through this phase. It could be anything that happened before, or you foresee as happening after this.
