Once upon a time, a vivacious girl was she.

Jewels of happy times dazzled her cache of memories.

Her persona emanated a sprightly laughter,

until the pandemic struck.

Locked down within the four walls,

online, virtual space conquered her life.

With friends and family imprisoned on the screen

tentacles of loneliness clasped her breath.

Silent voices screamed within her head,

with thoughts, lost in the labyrinth of anxiety.

Her once effervescent soul, today is anemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced schools, colleges and educational institutions to shut down since March last year. At an age when the primary fulfilling factor is interaction with classmates and enjoying school-life, a shutdown has wreaked havoc in the daily life of students. “Don’t worry, Morton, it’s a simple procedure. And non-invasive too!”

“Um…alright. But, it just seems kind of big.” Morton pointed to the c-clamp that was as large as a baby elephant.

“Yes, it is quite big.” The doctor nodded. Silence permeated between the two. “Oh! You were wondering about the logistics! Well, that’s what I have my partner for!”

“Your partner?”

“Um, Sydney!” The doctor called-out. That’s when one of the walls of the doctor’s office opened-up and an immense, spindly red man crawled into the office like a spider that lost control of its limbs.

“Yesss sirrrr?” The red man said with a smile.

“Hello Sydney, today is your lucky day. Morton here needs a procedure performed on him.”

The red man’s eyes glistened beneath the fluorescent lights. The red man clawed for the c-clamp and shifted slowly towards Morton.

“Wait! Wait! I don’t get it!”

Inspired by Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Jewels & Reena’s Exploration Challenge #174

the streaming brilliance of those i adore
elicit my smiles and warm heart-felt thanks
for providing a cushion from the cruelty in this world

the love i hold for those i love
fills me with joy and comfort
an ease not found elsewhere but with them

occasionally worry squeezes my head
allowing anxiety to ripple through my heart
the safety of the jewels in my life takes priority

i hope desperately to ensure their longevity
because what would i be
without them

They know that Trump is a criminal, and they want to put the screws to him to make the dirt come out, but he has not been put on the rack yet.  They will scrutinize his tax returns, which he claimed that he was not able to release because he was under audit, but he is no longer the president and he can’t continue to make excuses, so these tax experts will run through his tax return and start ripping it to pieces, and then he’ll end up in an audit, which will ultimately produce taxable consequences, and he will be forced to pay penalties and I hope this ends in jail time for him.  Trump has tried to avoid releasing his taxes for decades and it is not clear yet if he broke any laws, but it is thought that he has avoided paying hundreds of millions in taxes…

When I was young,

All that I wanted to be was an adult,

With no worry of homework in sight,

The grass looked greener on the other side,

Now that I’m one,

Realisation has dawned that the grass may be greener, but it’s constant work to keep it so,

All that I do now is work from home, work for home.

This finite life is taken for granted,

Infinite it is deemed to be,

Forgetting joys are to be cherished,

And worries are to be shelved,

Burdens of the world leans on every fragile shoulder.

Come into the world solo, but seek recognition lifelong,

Safeguard our close ones, closing them to those innermost anxieties,

Anticipation of birth cheers, even though everything is an unknown,

Brutality of Death scares, even though end is known,

Isn’t death just birth at another realm?

A starry start afresh,

Just…

On the city roads,

Against the blaring horns,

With each vehicle nudging past another as if running an unknown race,

Moving an inch seems nothing short of a struggle,

The flow of these serpentine line of vehicles boggle,

Start and end seem they’d topple,

As two wheelers zip past,

And pedestrians hastily cross,

Every hour is a busy hour,

Clocking a minute earlier than the previous day,

Is nothing short of a champion’s victory.

On the city roads,

Accelerating the vehicle forward safely is a worth a sight,

Even though ostriches burying their head is a myth,

I wouldn’t think twice to do the same and travel underground,

That’s when I got an idea to build my house askew to easily access Earth beneath,

To avoid the busy brightly lit city roads.
