PROMPT #175

A year back, the prompt on Exploration Challenge was “Woman”.

I decided to reverse it.

In this week, write a story/anecdote/non-fiction piece which does not involve a woman.

♾♾♾

A father

Seldom celebrated

Infrequently acknowledged

He bears the burden of financial responsibility

Carries the concerns of his family deep in his heart

Often unable to articulate his love and care in words

His actions sometimes deemed harsh, judgmental

But look into his heart and his worried eyes

And you will find a love that parallels that of a mother

Yet seldom celebrated or realized, but just taken for granted

♾♾♾

I was thinking of my own father, the kindest man I’ve ever known, or my husband who is a kind and caring father. But my children think him strict and there are often arguments when they declare that papa doesn’t…

PROMPT #174

No hurry

No curry

No worry

The Wise man said

No curry

No hurry

I could comply

But

No worry

Not in my hands, as

Life was ready with

It’s googlies

And

I never learned

How to play

With age came

Experience

I learned

Problems will be there

But

I’s your attitude

What counts

So

Stopped reacting

And

Learned to

Respond

With patience and

Care

Life

Still throws googlies

But

As it goes

One who keeps cool wins in the end.’

Friday Fictioneers – Keeping Ted Alive

Keeping Ted Alive – an outstanding piece of fiction by Neil Macdonald

Neil MacDonald's avatarNeil MacDonald Author

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

Ted didn’t know he was lost. And perhaps he wasn’t, at least not lost to himself, wandering with an impish grin through the woods. But he was lost to me. And the panic was mine.

Ted remained calm. He didn’t know we quartered the forest looking for him.

One day soon, he won’t realise he’s Ted. But I will. And, together, we’ll keep Ted alive. We’ll fill the mailboxes of his mind, so long as he still owns the keys.

Friday fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fieldsto write a 100-word story in response to a photo prompt. You can find other stories here

Oppression’s Child

Oppression’s Child ……. by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

This outer toughness
just conditioning
a baby alligator
that’s me

Raised in a swamp
Eat or be eaten!
family mantra, and
Deal with it!

I know it’s a lot
to take in
see the disbelief
in civilized eyes

Resistance to oppression
begets deeper wounds
Fear taught me well
Survival, they say, of the fittest.

Geneva in Grá Reformata

Geneva in Gra Reformata …… by Lady Lee

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from“Wild Geese Alighting on a Lake”by Anne Porter:neared, wings, surface, rippling, lake, drift, composed, water, arc, glided, settled, nest

Geneva the city with its lake

The mountains and my independence

Flew my wings and here I was awake

The first time I drifted from home

Tried to settle while I roam

Composed myself for my sake

Rippling water I glided for my entrance

Geneva the city with its lake

Trial and error while building my nest

Met a guy who would have guessed

Fell in love, didn’t know he was a snake

Broke my heart for he was a menace

Flew my wings and here I was awake

And so I keep on learning

New job, new language, new friends

Learned to skate and bake a cake

Found a job that was stupendous

Geneva the city with its lake

The little town that’s so…

A meager slumber

toils the mind from

too many thoughts

clamped tightly within

speech becomes muted

unable to release thoughts

left in the unknown

with unanswered questions

awaiting Wisdom’s whisper

of guidance…

a pivotal moment

do I ride the waves on

Patience’s surfboard

– OR –

let these thoughts become

tsunamis that drown me…

in this moment I choose

Patience inspired by

lessons learned from

Why worry?

Why Worry? ….. By Happy Soul

HappySoul's avatarLive Love Laugh Learn

Why think of tomorrow’s sorrow? Why worry?
Often we soak ourselves in this poison of anxiety and fear
Relax! Breathe! Take one day at a time, one moment at a time
Remember worry only steals us of the joy of the present
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is unknown, live this moment

I just finished a bit of “gyan session” to my daughter. Not too much… just a wee little bit.., She has her exams going and there is this one answer in English text book she doesn’t want to read and she chose not to read. She is a finisher and perfectionist. She was restless through the evening, she dint enjoy the evening walk with her grandma. When I asked what’s bothering her, She said “what if the same question comes in the exam!” 😅

You have two choices I said

1. Read it now…

PROMPT #174

➰➰➰

Training young minds or trapping them in a vise

Wanting them to think like you, react like you

Breaking their individuality, raising them as a mini-you

~*~

Let them grow up to find their own groove

Allow them to explore lifeand how they want it lived

They are not yours to own, just to raise and nurture

~*~

Respecting boundaries is often difficult when you’re the parent

But it’s the most important part of being a parent, oft-ignored

Let fresh ideas and approach wash out the dated methods

Don’t force things onto them just set good examples
