How you found her” She knew the stories, better than he by now, but still she asked. Familiar tales for bedtime “Of course, little one. Well, she was dancing wild, first time I spied her, underneath full clear moon. As fair of form and face as I … Continue reading mlmm sunday writing prompt: a father’s tale; a mother’s dance — Lorraine’s frilly freudian slip

Lake Quinault , WA

Lake Quinault, WA ,2019

It was a very pleasant summer day, a cool breeze blowing and we were on our way to Clallam bay. We took a break and had some lunch by the lakeside. There were people around, children playing and some families were boating on the lake.

What stood out the most from that day on the lake was the sense of serenity and calm that I experienced there. The absence of noise from busy roads or city life made me feel like I was cut off from the normal busy life.

A beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore the locality more due to the shortage of time.

My heartfelt thanks to all these wonderful participants. Please click on the links to read their contributions.

Deceit — One Woman’s Quest

“I’d like to get you know more,”he said, pulling up a chairmet with stunned silence “Truly,” he prodded, “I feelas if we’ve drifted apart, and I’ve ignored us.” I might have said “No kidding”but hope swelled with his wordsand I blurted: “Ask away.” So he listened,as he had that first nightwhen tipsy and enamoured We’d stumbled […]Deceit … Continue reading Deceit — One Woman’s Quest

Unwashed jokes

Björn Rudberg (brudberg)'s avatarBjörn Rudbergs writings

Some nights the aged librarian
will leave his library alone
to meet his mistress in
the cheap motel across the road,
those nights he lets
the moon sojourn
alone and by herself

; and as she waddle
through the halls
dressed in lace and leather
she will chuckle,
to coax the high-strung literary voices
from the shelves
to share stories from the
deep recess of entrails:
at such nights the books forget
the thrill of romance,
crimes and wars and drama of deceit,
and like toddlers giggle
at the heroes’ minuscule “details”
faeces and salacious poetry
spilled on filthy toilet doors.

Later when the dawn arrives,
on slippers
the moon has left without a trace —
and returning, the aged librarian
finds his books
sluggish,
silent,
soft,
subdued, but
in the halls the moon has left
her size fourteen stiletto footprints
and the muffled reek of unwashed jokes.

5 tips for women in corporate corridors

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

Support competent women

Support women by all means, but competent ones. Choose those who’ve been overlooked for other reasons. If you hold power, hold space for them.

Accept men as mentors

You are not the only one. All those men you see at the top are mentored by other men. It is just that maximum power is held by men on corporate structures.

We need to keep moving till women are seen in larger numbers at the top.

Don’t be afraid of standing out

I saw dislike in people’s eyes whenever I offered to do something that other women shied away from. Being one of the masses will give you short-term acceptance in social groups and nothing more.

Let others deal with their sense of inadequacy. We’re not here to make everyone comfortable.

Be weary of being used as a tool

Male bosses will try to put you in the…

Wise Wednesday – Do words really matter?

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

Photo by Pranjall Kumar on Pexels.com

How often have you heard the following words,

We respect women.

We encourage women.

We hold women in high regards. After all, you created us.

Think about it. Were you involved, when a small or big decision was taken. Were you consulted?

What would you like to be – a goddess, influencer, change-maker, decision-maker? What gives you real power?

Your decision-making powers indicate your real place in the family or organisation.

Anything else is hogwash, an eyewash to make you think you are appreciated.

Women, get out of traps….

7 Keys to Make Heads Turn

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

You are watched, if you are successful. And you are on the path to success, if you are watched.

Mark Zuckerberg, with his penchant for the grey hoodie, and Liz Taylor, who travelled with 90 suitcases, have all been widely discussed in the media. It is living life in a fishbowl, where each detail is hungrily lapped up by the eager public. It takes an army of brand strategists, stylists and sponsoring designers, to take them where they are, and to project the image that they wish to convey.

Dressing Right is an art and science, and yet, not rocket science. The whole concept can be summed up in 7 elements of style, for an average person.

The Magic of Neutrals

Yes, it starts with the blandest of all elements- the wardrobe neutrals. Incorporate basic pieces like trousers, shirts, skirts and jackets in classic cuts in these colors. This…

Sunday Writing Prompt – Great Balls of Fire

Michael's avatarMorpethroad

When it happened, it astounded everyone.

Not again was the cry around the room.

Poor Cousin Harry had gone up in a ball of fire.

It wasn’t until Harry’s dust was cleared away that the talk turned to “Have we got a problem as a family?”

This was because we all remembered Uncle Cedric going the same way. Was there a genetic issue with us all?

Those of us who were there on the two occasions recalled the moments before both men went up in their respective balls of fire.

Harry had coughed a few times, stretched his collar and remarked that his feet felt unusually hot.

Cedric had also had the cough, he loosened his tie, as he’d just come in from Sunday Church, kicked off his shoes and then it was all over in a flash. It freaked out those of us who were there as the sermon…
