always cursing the heavens
while life constantly threw itself at us
but yet
despite the struggles all around
the misfortunes endured
we found our way back to happiness
somehow grateful for the experience
and the lessons taught
the grief of loss
showed us we could endure
the reverent conversations with mother nature
went something like this…

we don’t need you to make us feel safe, because you made us feel brave

Solsticing

Solsticing …. by Frank Tassone

The canopy of maple leaves bathes in sunlight on the Summer Solstice. Still for a moment, the legion of leaves ripple lie a stadium crowd doing the wave.

Despite the abundance of daylight left on this longest of days, afternoon shadows creep across the front yard. The street already basks in the shade.

I’ve spent my Solstice grading the last-minute assignment submissions of students desperate to graduate, or dodge summer school. I spend it now awaiting a parent’s completed google form about her daughter. I will spend it on the deck, enjoying the dinner whose aroma already has my mouth watering.

But while Summer officially begins on this traditionally midsummer day, I struggle with the fatigue with which I awoke. And all the endless light of this longest day does is taunt me with the promise of my bed.

A promise that won’t be…

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #186 – Words mean different to different mind

Words mean different to different minds ….by Lady Lee

ladyleemanila's avatarLadyleemanila

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “The Second Coming” by William Butler Yeats: worst, hand, word, revelation, thighs, indignant, desert, darkness, stony, nightmare, cradle, beast

Words mean different to different mind

Books, revelation are combined

Some others are indignant kind

Others we have to streamlined

Worst still might be a nightmare

Comes in the darkness don’t know where

In stony silence it could be

From the beast we’d like to be free

Cradling dark thoughts from the Black Sea

Hand in hand by the Aegean Sea

We remember stories of old

In the desert or when we’re cold

But then still good to have read

Our imagination is keyed

Make or break we have to accede

From time to time also agreed

Life is colourful with these books

Discuss anything also crooks*

The cosy lair, a perfect setting

in the backdrop of an infinite treasury,

for a date of the two bibliophiles.

The cocktail of genres, intoxicate their spirit

spell binding their senses into a dreamy ecstasy.

Smell bound by the scent of the crisp papers,

they brew animated conversations over coffee.

Debates unchain emotional exchange of opinions,

the heat lingers on, igniting a feeling of passionate bookbosom

hands feel the pages, the heart sentranced by the words.

The two biliophagist indulge in readultry,

celebrating their profound love for books!

I Can’t Dance

I can’t dance …by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

“How can I take her out dancing, if I don’t know how to dance” said Jim to his friend Bob while they were at the antique book store.  Bob replied, “Most of the people on a dance floor are doing basic, simple, repetitive steps and you can do this if you build up your confidence.  Dancing is always done with music, so you must feel the beat, and everyone feels awkward the first time that they dance.  Some people spend years taking dancing lessons and they are still uncomfortable dancing in front of others.  The people who are out there dancing are too busy worrying that they won’t make a mistake, so you won’t have to worry about them judging you.  Practice will help, but you can’t get into the rhythm of the music till you can discern the beat.”

Jim said, “I listen to a lot of music, but…
