Silent War

No one doubts that you’re in pain when you’re walking around bleeding. You’re lucky, if someone believes you’re hurt, without you having to forcibly cut off an arm.

Naira was fine. She was perfect. There wasn’t a scratch on her. She was just about to throw herself off the top of a high-rise, that was all. And what was so special about that?

Everyone had problems. Anyone who thought their problems deserved attention just wasn’t trying hard enough to solve them. Right?

War was hard. Poverty was hard. Going out to break you’re back trying to make money was hard. But when war is at the doorstep, what do you expect to do?” Stand still and be quiet?

Marriage? You couldn’t possibly be complaining about being married. You wanted to be married, didn’t you? Learning your partner’s personality, his tendencies, his flaws. That was your responsibility…

What do you expect me to do?

What do you expect me to do — by Anne Leueen

War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?” This is prompt #219 from Reena’s Xploration Challenge. Reena has chosen a challenge that is very timely with the horrific situation in Ukraine.

My son knows people who live in Kyiv. He tells me they are ordinary working people who go out to lunch and buy overpriced salads and on Fridays go for a beer or a sushi dinner after work.

If I was in Kyiv I might wonder, since war is at my doorstep, “what do you expect me to do? ” Should I watch my home be blown up and my family humiliated in the street? Or would I hope my career as a marketing manager has prepared me to be shooting at tanks out of my living room window.

Laura dreaded hearing the alarm go off because today was the day she would have to confront her own faith in the wake of a huge battle. Her eyes were gasping with tears as she watched the smoke fill the bay. It was hard to breathe because the war was at the doorstep of her country’s border.

What do you expect me to do?” She asked to the heavens, even though she had been lacking in her faith. “Should I sit here…watching the demise? What would you really have me do, God?”

She was angry, and she was scared. She had never seen a war like this one before, and she never thought it would hit like the missiles that were flying in the skies. She was struggling to understand the madness, and at the same time, she wanted to feel a higher…

“War is at the doorstop. What do you expect me to do?”

By Ami (Gypsie) Offenbacher-Ferris

“War is at the doorstop. What do you expect me to do?” Asked Poland of the little Ukrainian girl standing on the steps of the Palac Prezydencki. Her small frame although dwarfed by President Andrzej Duda, remained standing tall in front of him.

“We can not worry about Russia and her desire to reintegrate Ukraine little girl, we must focus our energies on returning Poland to a higher state of Christianity that we might do good in the world.” He turned and left her standing on those opulent marble steps alone.

War

War …by Sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

War, the most heinous of acts
Destroyer of lives through generations
Something totally avoidable
Only for the satisfaction of the big egos of tiny men
War is at our doorstep,
What do you expect me to do?

Surrender the sense of being in the right
Embrace your humanity!

Succumbed…

Succumbed ….by Radhika

Fingers intertwined; we etched our hearts together “forever” in the sands of time, only to be washed away by the tides of time,

the glowing embers of passion have died down to ashen grey

fiery exchange of words have replaced theromantic nights of cozy candle light conversations

once ardent lovers, today our bond lies fragmented

accusations seem to be a favorite pastime now,

the rift widens, with overtures of reconciliation negated

peace buried beneath the tirades of anger and deluge of tears

war is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?

our relationship is yet another casualty in the emotional battlefield.
