Intent On

Intent on ….. by Susi Bocks

Inspired by Reena’s Exploration Challenge #220 – Life is a mountain. Your goal is to find your path, not to reach the top. – Maxine Lagace & Eugenia’s Weekly Prompt – Still-life

my gaze finds solidarity
in the still-life
impressing itself upon me
its immobility gracefully being
the pristine presence so noble
banishing inquietude

to be that solid
to be that stoic
and remain stable
while the tragedy of life inflicts wounds
it’s admirable

i too
will chart my course
deliberately
and unwaveringly

Sketchy Characters IV – Torn by War

Sketchy characters in the war room ….by Artie

artiecamenzind's avatarArtie & Stu

“War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?” her handwriting was expressive, flowing, beautiful. I didn’t know what to expect when I found her gone in the morning. The note left me to decide what I must do next. Her son’s father was from a border town. I had been able to track their flights, he had taken young Piotr there. Of course she had to go find the little rock before the war spread. That’s what families do. What’s my duty as friend, only possibly more even given last night together? What’s my duty as a human. I didn’t and don’t prefer moral questions staring me in the face when I don’t prefer the answer that is also staring me in the face. When looking deep within, most of us anyhow, know what is right. And know what is a failing, then ask for forgiveness…

It’s Your Life

It’s your life …. by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

George Harrison wrote a song titled ‘What Is Life’ and in it he said, “I’ll try my best to make everything succeed.” Oddly Ringo Starr wrote a song titled ‘It Don’t Come Easy’ and in it he said, “Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues, and you know it don’t come easy.”  Nothing good in life ever comes easy, and life will continuously throw challenges and obstacles at you, as no one ever promised you a rose garden.  From the time you are born, it can be an uphill battle, and the way in which you climb and the time that it takes for this journey, is left completely up to you, as nobody can live your life for you, and people don’t live forever.  The textbook definition of life says that this is the state of being which begins with generation, birth, or germination, and…

Where do I go?

Eunoia …. by Smitha Vishwanath

Smitha V's avatarEúnoia

War is at the doorstep. What do you want me to do?
You say I must run- but where
you do not say-
Where do I go
When this is the only home I know

You say, 'Do it for your family.'
And I agree.
I wake my sleeping children
Stuff my pockets with money, and bags
with food and clothes, and toys

'Go!' you say. 'Before, its too late.'
But how- how do I take it all?
I have two hands- one for each child whose hand I must hold
My back - it hurts- but it's what I've got
So, I'll carry what I can and the rest I'll leave, behind.

I’m participating in Reena’s Exploration challenge which requires me to include the sentence somewhere in your piece.“War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?”

And with this poem, I’m not going to…

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #219- WAR

War ….. by Indira

PROMPT # 219

Include the sentence somewhere in your piece.

“War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?”

WAR

War is at the doorsteps.

So?

What do you expect me to do?

Take sides or

take out my armor and sword

and plunge into the war.

What if I don’t want to fight?

For warmongers don’t fight themselves.

They make us fight in the name of patriotism.

We have no choice but to follow.

Who benefits from war except for the armament manufacturers.

But,

who pays the price, who loses

except

mothers, wives, and children

waitingfor their beloved ones.

This weeks prompt: “War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?”

Cry from Ukraine

War is at the doorstep
What do you expect from me?
To pick up guns and ammo
or let the enemy be?
There is no point to fighting
for we were already free
Please go back to Russia
So we don’t have to flee.

War is at the doorstep.
What do you expect me to do?
Take away my family?
Abandon all that we knew?
For war is always ugly
and this one without cause
Our world must come together
There is no time to pause.
People here are dying
Lives are all at stake.
How many people do we lose?

War is at the doorstep, what do you expect me to do?

It’s late now, your heart is laden with rue,

Brace yourself, to see a sea of graves, reaching the horizon,

Endless names of unsung heroes, inscribed on monoliths, forever gone,

Martyred for a selfish cause, decorated posthumously,

An appearance of caring generously,

Brace yourself, for scars of wars are invincible,

Wounds embedded deep in the psyche of the living gullible,

Hope and pray, no more, we wake to sounds of bugles and bombs,

Hope and pray, the future wakes to sounds of love and laughter that embraces all homes,

For, we are the world, we are it’s people,

We can make a better day, our voices should not be feeble.

A poised and calm chiseled, exterior, she portrayed,

In her head, a flurry of activity, all frayed,

She played along, thinking on her feet,

His diabolic heart, cloaked in dripping graciousness replete,

She did read; biding time, was her game,

Till the opportune moment came,

To escape, the big marauding cat, on a dare,

To trap an unsuspecting prey ( so he thought ), in his snare.

Identical twins ….by Usha

The twins were inseparable. They were identical twins, most people would confuse one for the other.Tarun, did not have to look in the mirror, to see his reflection; it was right there in the form of Varun. They were similar in many ways as well, in their thinking and sensitivities. So connected were they, that one appeared as the shadow of the other. The first nine years of their lives were spent in entwined, inalienable bliss. The sun stopped shining on them, when a severe drought hit their region. Their father was a small time farmer, selling to middlemen. He earned enough and more for their sustainance, enough to meet their not so fancy needs.

Circumstances changed overnight, at the blink of an eyelid. Their father, unable to cope with financial pressures, took the easy way out. He left them high and dry, to fend for…

What Can We Do?

What can we do? ….. by Diana Coombes

writerravenclaw's avatarWriter Ravenclaw

“War is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?”

His question was open ended, and both of them knew the answer. There was nothing they could do at such a hostile country. They had the power, and nobody was doing anything to stop them.

Fear at what could happen to the world if other countries got involved in what looked like a border conflict. The difference seventy years made, didn’t help the helpless. They woke up to bombs and tanks rolling down the streets. They woke up to the news that their country was being engulfed in pain. They woke up, and everything was different.

“Nothing, nothing but look after your family, keep them safe.”

What’s the worst that can happen? He wanted to keep his family safe, but the only way to do that was to leave his country.
