Upon the plate lay many things
my eyes could not perceive
Round and raw is what I saw

Beside the plate lay two long sticks lovely wooden pieces for my hair
To cool my neck I twisted up

My long curly hair upon
the top of my head and slid
the sticks deftly into my locks

Then a gasp arose within the place
a scream from the kitchen ensued
Patrons stood to see the ruckus there

Sadly I can not say how dinner
was that day as I was promptly
asked to leave the establishment

Fear not though as all is well the sticks I did retrieve and use them daily in my long gray hair

दस्तक

hecblogger's avatarPlaying with words

Reena’s Exploration Challenge

The Bag Lady’s response to RXC#228

rugby843's avatarThe Bag Lady

Such colorful choices
fish not my appeal
But I’ll take the sticks
for my “McDonalds” meal
I’ll use them for fries littered with ketchup
It’s a lunch at the office, don’t want to ruin my makeup.

Assortment of Colors

Assortment of Colors …. by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

In the Cream song ‘Swlabr’ aka She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow, a girl spends her days with this man, but returns to her husband at night.  Eventually the husband kicks his cheating wife to the curb, so she runs crying to the other guy and asks him to take care of her, because she doesn’t want to be on her own.  She realizes that she left some pictures behind when she moved out, so she goes back to where her husband is to get them.  Her husband gives her all the pictures that she requested, but he has drawn moustaches on a lot of them to make her look like Hitler.  Some of her photographs were decorated with beards, devil horns/tail, blacked-out teeth, spiky hair and one even had an arrow going through her head.

Her new partner was much more mature, and he was able to accept that…

All things big and small- Choices

All things big and small …. by Sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

The theme is“Assortment”

The image given above is your prompt for the week. Write whatever comes to mind.

➰➰➰

A tray presented with an assortment of things on it
Things big and small
Things similar and different
Things related and unrelated
You get a choice to pick some, reject others
To embrace a few and shun the others
Life is that tray of assorted choices
We by our circumstances are forced into some choices
Why we pick or reject something, is sometimes fated
Sometimes we have the autonomy to make this choice by free will
Whatever we end up with on our plate
Is then what we have to make the best of
For we cannot go back and demand a different choice

Gladly accepting our lot is one important key
To have a life free of regrets

Remembering Maya Angelou

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

Maya Angelou is the beautiful soul whom I never stop quoting.

The breadth and depth of her experience qualified her to be the star she was.

I came across an interesting fact about her death in 2014. Her son said she suffered from heart problems and pain caused by dancing.

I salute the soul who could dance at the age of 86 … she certainly knew “why the caged bird sings” and the peacock dances.

I wonder how many saw her soul rise up and above that day. I see her as the brightest guiding star whenever night falls.

Information about Maya Angelou’s books is available on her website.

Day 29 of NaPoWriMo…one day to go and its over….

Love Was There

in an array of crowd i look for you
i look for your smile that obviously brightens my day
even in a room filled with massive people i still hear your voice that sends a loving signal into my heart
and oh, dear i smell you in every single perfume there is in the room.

and, i wonder.

even with the intriguing, interesting conversations i have i want a conversation with you, only you; for i felt more connection talking to you
i felt it especially in between our pauses and silence
i felt the agonizing need to say more, to talk more
i felt the excruciating pain of the need to say out loud why i want you, you of all the people around.

and, i wonder.

people come and people go, some we may have…

It’s a deadly Assortment #flashfiction #challenge

It’s a deadly assortment …. by moondustwriter

moondustwriter's avatar penned in moon dust

I thought I was having a dream until my senses were overwhelmed with the odor of fish.

Then I heard:

“There are 15 pieces of sushi. You must eat five of them. Your best friend’s life depends on it.”

Lizzy was tied to a chair in the corner.

” I must mention that three of the items will cause instant death and two well it might be possible to make it to hospital. You have four minutes to decide and 1 minute to eat. “

This is not a dream. This is a NIGHTMARE!!!

“Your time starts Now.”

The above picture is the prompt for this week’s Xploration Challenge – moderated by the talented Reena Saxena

Did I mention I love flash fiction with all the fixins…

A New Experience

A new experience …. by Diana Coombes

writerravenclaw's avatarWriter Ravenclaw

”Sushi, that’s raw fish, isn’t it?” Alan said, poking the food with his chopsticks.

Elizabeth smiled, taking her dad to the Japanese restaurant seemed a good idea a month ago. A chance to try new things, but one look in his direction told her all she needed to know.

”Look try one, and I’ll try one,’ she said

He ditched the chopstick, and took out a fork instead. It was like he was being asked to eat something of I’m a Celebrity. Except there weren’t any meals to earn for camp. Gingerly, the sushi was lifted to his lips.

Elizabeth giggled.

”What you laughing at? I don’t see you trying one,” Alan said.

A chopstick used to pierce the fish, Elizabeth moved it towards her mouth and took a bite. Seeing his daughter, Alan did the same. It didn’t taste half bad. Not normally something he thought he would eat.

The Start Of An Adventure

First in this week ..

The Start of an Adventure … by Susi Bocks

Susi Bocks's avatarI Write Her

Inspired by Reena’s Exploration Challenge #228 & Eugenia’s Weekly Prompt – Sublime

he had me at the twinkle of his eyes
reaching for the right sentence
to convince, catching me in a stare

the flash of his smile
and the boyish charm wrapped up in this man
invited an enthusiastic engagement

coffee? sure
our like-minded language spanned hours
a request for more became a dinner date

sushi, then? sure
an adventure wrapped up in a wink
a chance meeting with a sublime creature led to more
