The only ghost that scares is a past version of you, were the words trickling through her dreams. Night after night, spirits would call their warning. A low growl, followed by a dark hum and she would see things happen she did not want to see.
A warped sense of a glum future, a time where the whole world is falling into little pieces around her, and there was nothing she could do. Everywhere she would run to, the landscape would crumble around, and fall.
She was lost, her bones aching, as the land split into fire and there was nothing she could do. Run? Where to? Each road fell apart, just like the rest. And then she would wake up, hear the birds singing, and it was all a…

PROMPT #241 – The only ghost that scares is a past version of you
The only ghost that scares is a past version of you – a Terzanelle by Lady Lee

In the spirit of the past
pray that it wasn’t so glum
birds flew and events had passed
some tune I couldn’t even hum
no need to run after me
pray that it wasn’t so glum
lost to the world but can’t be free
willowy tree outside my door
no need to run after me
myths of failure that I could score
growling dog calling for his bones
no need to run after me
water trickling down those stones
one two three and I would be off
growling dog calling for his bones
yet I’m not ready to scoff
in the spirit of the past
one two three and I would be off
birds flew and events had passed*

Smarter Devices
Jim Adams is back with a new prompt – Friday Faithfuls at MLMM
A wide range of connectivity standards like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or Thread are used by the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices to establish data connectivity with a local network. The number of smart devices and the technology demands Americans placed on their homes jumped dramatically in 2020 and it is expected to keep on increasing. Smart products connect to the internet, so you can control them from your phone via a companion app. Most will also work with various forms of voice control. Connected devices includes laptops, tablets, and smartphones, along with video streaming devices and smart televisions, wireless headphones and earbuds, gaming consoles and smart home devices, fitness trackers and connected exercise machines, and endless others. People make use of smart devices to adjust the temperature and lighting inside of their homes and to automatically close their garage door every night at a specific time. Tomorrow’s smart…

Sunday Confessionals : Answers
Implacably human … by Mindlovemisery

Implacably Human
The dawn settles
pensive and oyster-shell pink
into the stinging arms
of another edge-less morning.
–
Each day I wake up
drifting from one
dream to another,
transparent and ubiquitous
like a jellyfish.
–
It was the lies
that caused the breach
not what those lies
sought to obfuscate.
It is always the lies
but no one gets that
they think
trust is lost
in the imperfections,
in the momentary cruelties.
We all lie.
When I say
I am certain
that is always a lie
because I never am.
I don’t know
means more
than pity anyhow.
I don’t know
is implacably human.
–
Sometimes
I want to hear
nice things.
I want to be
spoken to the way
a child speaks
when blowing off
the head of a dandelion.
I want the dusk
delicate and womb soft
to envelop me
but…

Looping the dreams
Looping the dreams …. by Punam

Bemused I look at my bloodied, skinned knees
Knees lacerated and raw from crawling all over
Over the jagged and cruel edges of reality
Reality which had been summarily discarded
Discarded foolishly in favour of fanciful fantasy
Fantasy which turned into smithereens everything
Everything now seems lost forever, but…
But now I am retrieving broken pieces of those dreams
Dreams thus fragmented, you may say, would do no good
Good times alas seem far-fetched and unreal
Unreal cadence of yesterday mars my today
Today the salt from my eyes may sting these dreams
Dreams that continue to lie shattered and prone
Prone and battered completely out of shape
Shape of my future splintered badly so
So I gently lay them away from the escarpment
Escarpment which beckons with suicidal notions
Notions that may make them fall off the precipice again
Again to be shattered and scattered…

Trapped
Trapped ….by Ramya Tantry
And Miles to go before I sleep...

The past gave me lessons to avoid blunders,
But my present and future are hindered.
“Watch out, it’s going to happen again.” is what I hear,
Whenever I think of trying what I fear.
The ghost of my past is looking at me from the mirror,
Or is it one of the sly tricks of my ego to make me reconsider?
I try hard to make my past version disappear,
But “Watch out, it’s going to happen again.” is what I hear.

Past, Present and Future
Past, present and future …. by Myrna Migala
Reena’s Xploration Challenge #241
A single-line prompt for this week – The only ghost that scares is a past version of you. OR SHOULD I SAY Me!
Write whatever pops up in mind.
What pops into my mind is not you but me!

When I look into my magic mirror into the past, I see myself being deceived. "Me! Deceived? me What PRIDE! The devel can certainly deceive, IT is clever that way. But, I was so happy, carefree, young, and healthy that everything was going my way! So I thought! No, I do not want to visit that ghost, myself! My problem was allowing myself to put my will above the will of God. AND It was all my fault; (I knew better). Yet, I blamed it on the changes within the Catholic Church, how it became more and more adapted to the world, and I went along with it…
