Two Planes

Two planes flying trying to reach

Somewhere high, at great extremes

Flying above even the clouds

Where they can see

Both sun and earth

Its a dizzying feel

At supersonic speeds

When everything on ground

Swiftly recedes

Sun looks far, never in reach

Yet at a touch of button

They can raise a sun

To leave behind

A scorched earth

Machine hearts

Machine hearts … By Benjamin

Above the screams of innocent civilians …Read on for more

Benjamin Nambu's avatarMowabites Worldwide

“I want to be a soldier!”

It’s been his song since childhood

Inspired by Batman

And the other guy who gums and ‘degums’ himself from buildings to save a girl in danger

Little did he know that soldiers wear uniforms

Much larger than the passion to defend the defenseless

It’s only from high up here

Above the screams of innocent civilians

Does he realize how noble ambitions can be driven into the heat of madness

Look up …. by Sadje

Write whatever the image brings up in you.

Flying high in the sky

Their intent deadly

Raining death on people

From high in the sky

They spread mayhem

On orders from above

Their feeling or conscience

Not involved in their actions

Do they ever think about

The consequences of their actions?

War Zone

What are those planes, Mummy?

hovering in the sky,

they’re making such a sound Mummy,

Making my teddy cry.

Stay away from the window,

take this bag and pack.

Dry those tears my darling,

hurry, I’ll be right back.

What will I pack Mummy?

Can I take teddy too?

Of course you can darling,

But your clothes, only a few.

Where will we go Mummy?

Will we take our car?

No, we’ll take a little walk

It really isn’t far.

Burned

Burned …. by Michelle Navajas

Burned

i dared and had a taste
of the blazing fire in your lips
that late February afternoon
when summer was just
in the waiting room
it had me burned,
burned down ’till i can’t
hold on nor put a halt
to the once fragment
of my late night poetries
and 3 am cold morning wishes
i never thought it would happen
so i cared not of the cruel truth
i was burned,
but it felt so good
i was intoxicated,
but it gave me power
i felt so good, i felt so powerful
that no amount of brutal reality
could make me stop
nothing could make me stop
from loving you that late
February afternoon.

that same fire is still burning
even decades after, i am burned.

two fighter jets looked down
on the destruction they created
the war zone now resplendent
with white and grey tangled shards
of concrete building remnants in the streets
the bodies of the innocent
dotted with bright red blood
limbs splayed and everywhere
black patches of unearthed greenery
rejoicing in the colors of war
claiming a supposed victory

mission accomplished
returning to base

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #242-All but Forgotten

All but forgotten…by Susan St. Pierre

There is no restriction on length or format of the piece. There is no last date either, unless you wish to be featured in the Weekly Wrap.

Cee abruptly stopped in her tracks. The finely detailed map that she held did not depict the glassy pond which obviously lay directly to her right. The sky reflected on the pond’s surface was sharp, but the image was sepia-toned.
A gasp from directly behind her made her jump with fright. She spun around with fists at the ready nearly knocking the youngest survivor into the copper-colored water.

“Zee! You scared the salt out of me! I told you to stay at camp.”

“I got bored, Cee. You get all the fun these days.”

“These days? You call the end of human existence THESE DAYS!”

Cee instantly realized her fright had gotten the better of…

#PROMPT 241

A single-line prompt for this week –

The only ghost that scares is a past version of you.

Rather than the ghost

of a past versionof me

scares memost

the present version of me

a product of

the past irreversible mistakes

Only solace

I learned

the lesson

Ghost-busting

Ghost-busting …..by Artie

artiecamenzind's avatarArtie & Stu

I was five, I said no,
I don’t want his name behind my name.
As if I sensed what was to come.
But the tree was rooted, or rather re-rooted.
And I grew thereby
proving perhaps his parenthood.
Uglier then uglier versions of me,
on me like a cheap suit.
Then you don’t rise from ashes
without having been in the fire.
My spirit surviving through
the ghost of who I was
vanishing as the old warthog’s ashes
splashed into the swamp
from the boardwalk at fisherman’s landing.

Moonwashed Weekly Challenge-resplendent- Collective Value Requires Individuals

A brilliant, creative piece by Susan

Susan St.Pierre's avatarSillyfrog's Blog

-When she opened the door, Dorothy revealed the resplendent spectacle of Munchkin Land. –

This was cinematic genius and a commentary on the human capacity to appreciate beauty.

Engineers, build.
Mathematicians, figure.
Philosophers, think.
And, artists and poets, add resplendence to our existence.

Don’t let anyone tell you who is most ‘essential’ to your community or the world. We ALL are.
