Locked Up (Blitz Poem)

Locked up —- a blitz poem — by Michelle Ayon Navajas

Locked Up

locked up and caged
locked up and broken
broken like little mice
broken little lives
lives played
lives ruined
ruined for entertainment
ruined for fun
fun and amusement
fun and recreation
recreation or past time
recreation or abuse
abuse for life
abuse for nature’s gift
gift given
gift bestowed
bestowed by God
bestowed for humanity
humanity destroying
humanity playing
playing God
playing a fool
fool to believe
fool to castigate
castigate when wrong
castigate when disobedient
disobedient to authority
disobedient to tyranny
tyranny and bigotry
tyranny and oppression
oppression and persecution
oppression and despotism
despotism over democracy
despotism over freedom
freedom of speech
freedom of fear
fear from persecution
fear from execution
execution without just trial
execution without fair judgement
judgement call
judgement eye
eye for truth
eye for justice
justice delayed
justice denied
denied and banned
denied and forsaken
forsaken by humanity
forsaken by fate
fate
humanity

KEY TO FREEDOM – Reena’s Xploration Challenge #257

Key to Freedom …. by Ken Hume

kenhume31's avatarPoetry and Prose of Ken Hume

THE KEY TO FREEDOM

Locked up again
Incarcerated
And behind bars
An unwelcome case of deja vu
These orange jumpsuits
And cold concrete surroundings
Were becoming all too familiar
Jason put up his feet
Sat back & closed his eyes
Like he was at home
Like…
This was the best he could hope for.
Ron leaned forward
(Hands resting on his lap)
With a glum; angry expression
On his furrowed brow.
The doors of their minds locked,
Like their bodies
Resistant to change
Incapable of breaking free
Chronically unable
To live a different kind of life.
Chris, however
Open book in his hand
Appeared content: determined
Smug almost
And completely engrossed
In his reading material
Until his eyes fixed
On one particular quote
Then it seemed like
A light bulb came on
And the lock opened
He suddenly realised
What he needed to do
To be free.

Should you wish…

Remember

Remember …
By Roshni

Roshni's avatarLet's read our words

Remember the days that flew by,
veiled in truths, lies, smiles, and goodbyes.
But, amid life’s charms, you live by
Remember the days that flew by,
of regrets, yet tough to bid bye,
whispering to be wise at times…
Remember the days that flew by,
Veiled in truths, lies, smiles, and goodbyes.

His True Love

His true love ….by Larry Trasciatti

larry trasciatti's avatareastelmhurst.a.go.go

I fell in love with sweet Laura but it was not meant to be

the skies were dark and no bright birds sang

when she walk hand in hand with me

I fell in love with sweet Lauren but neither did our love last

the undertaker worked overtime

until our affair had passed

at last I have met sweet Laurie

and she is the bride for me

and now I sit here reading

of what was not ever meant to be

of broken hearts from so long ago

o shall I ever again be set free?

THE MIDAS TOUCH

I am no Midas
yet everything I touch now
acquires new meaning
Is it an artist’s vision
or a poet’s call and yearning?

LIAR MIRRORS

change seeps in
imperceptibly
entrenches
itself in
deep psyche layers
mirrors lie with the same face

PRESSED FLOWERS

memories unfold
-a pressed flower in the book
crushed before its time
I strive to read stories etched
on petals, not the pages

BEYOND THE RAINBOW

rainbows show
multiple layers,
complex truths
in seven
predefined colors
-I look for what lies beyond

spark

Spark ….by Audrine Maxden

Audrine Max's avatarAwakening Imagination

each of us host
a number of
astounding potentialities
wrapped in this
tiny garment of physicality
within us lies the seeds
of the cosmos, stars,
universes, and galaxies
our very own divinity
why shy away, choosing
to be locked in a world
without paint and color
wanting to be
like everyone else
refusing to stand out
refusing to shine
being a master
at limiting the divine
intentionally blocking
its flow, believing you are
never good enough
so clever at playing the keys
of inferiority complex
trapped in resentment
and bitterness
keep on replaying in the mind
i am not like him
i am not like her
i am no genius
my craft is no better
but dear, how would you know
if you didn’t even show
that brave heart of yours
just answer that nudge
that call of the higher soul
you may be afraid, but-
trust, you are always…

Kate Walsh

Kate Welsh ….

Responding to Reena’s prompt based on the above picture. https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2022/11/17/reenas-xploration-challenge-257-2/

Where had it all gone wrong? She had been so much in control but now found herself spiraling ever downward, confined to a prison of her own making.

Kate Walsh sat reflectively in the back pew of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church reviewing her life, her family, and its highs and lows, trying to discern a course of action and decide what she should do next.

Her marriage of twenty-five years had produced six children, the oldest twenty-three years, and the youngest ten years. Had she been a good wife, and mother, or could she have done better, the thoughts went around and around in her head?

She did like a clean house, and she expected her children and husband to comply. She did like regimentation, never allowing her children to sleep past 8:00 a.m., ensuring they eat only…

Many break down with complication
Sensible look for the solution
Blaming and grieving
Praying and complaining
Sighing and winning
Never helps
But the majority believes in this notion

Unlocking Minds

Unlocking minds …. by Diana Coombes

Written in response https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2022/11/17/reenas-xploration-challenge-257-2/

Break times, in the factory, could be torture for some and a time to read for others. Locked minds felt bored. There was nothing they could do but ponder on what had gone wrong in their shift.

Bob, scrunching his eyes, thought about what he would do if he won the lottery. Last week he spent his wages trying to win that fortune, now he had no choice but to work.

Paul, leaning on his knees, couldn’t get over the argument with his production manager. All he did was moan about him being late on shift, or not being quick enough. He was sick of this treatment, but where else could he work. This was his seventh job in as many months.

Jack, reading his book, didn’t love his work, but it paid the bills. He was able to feed his family, give help to those…
