Reena’s Xploration Prompt #258
Word: CESSPOOL

It’s a whirling, swirling cesspool of power hungry, greed possessed individuals purporting to represent and fight for the liberty and rights of those who voted them into positions of great and small importance.

Circling towards the center vortex in pursuit of fame, fortune and control, just like a tornado or water spout, tsunami or cyclone. These forces collapse, leaving waste and debris in the wake of what began as good intentions, but becomes corrupted by the very power they seek. Leaving behind a cesspool of spoils reeking of lies, wrong doings and evil intent.

To clean the cesspool, it must be drained completely and refilled from the bottom up with fresh representatives. Then, it’s purity must be nurtured, protected and rewarded to instill and protect its integrity. Lest our leaders become nothing but…

Black Friday

Jim has an interesting prompt for us this week …

newepicauthor's avatarMindlovemisery's Menagerie

For years America’s best sports tradition has been the rivalry between the Black Knights from West Point and the Midshipmen from Annapolis where the Army versus Navy football game was dubbed “America’s Game”.  Gone are the days when America’s service academies were national powerhouses, but the game will forever hold a place in American culture.  Generations ago, both Army and Navy were football powerhouses, combining for four national championships.  The term Black Friday wasn’t in common use nationwide before 1985, however it was known in Philadelphia, where the Army Navy game was hosted in the city 89 of the 122 contests.  This made sense, as Philadelphia was roughly equidistant from the two academies.  This game was historically played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (a date on which most other major college football teams end their regular seasons).  In the early 1950s, this game attracted more than 100,000 people, filling John F. Kennedy Stadium…

Your Church: Compilation 11/25/2022

Your Church …. by Christine Bialczak

Stine Writing and Miniatures's avatarStine Writing

It’s a transient world in this cesspool called life
where dangerous people cause infinite strife
But laid out before us in a subliminal church
A decoration of faith, a presentation of worth
It is here that we find peace and love undisturbed
With just an inkling of anger or just maybe perturbed
But we let it all go at the drop of a dime
Because all we’ve got left is our life and some time.

hidden force

You know you are the hidden force…

See the wisdom Audrine brings in this piece “Hidden Force”

Audrine Max's avatarAwakening Imagination

here you are standing
in the midst of the ocean
letting yourself be swayed
accepting all the push and pull
of the waves of life
always at the mercy
of external stimuli

one day, you were told
you can walk on water
psychologically traverse
endless states of mind
it does take some faith and courage,
to attain the level of selfpersuasion
and know the outside world
is not for signs and confirmation

you were told, you have
this inner strength
to reveal in you such a character
unmoved by the world
at the calmest with your strong conviction
whatever the senses perceived
relieved, it didn’t matter

for you know you are the hidden force
in every situation
the causation behind circumstances encountered
but, will it be alright
if no one knew, not a hint of recognition
of the noble ideals you projected
here in Caesar’s world

and just be content…

Slow Death

Slow Death …. by Susi Bocks

Inspired by Moonwashed Musings Weekly Prompt – Transient &
Reena’s Exploration Challenge #258 – Cesspool

it’s inevitable
we hit rough patches in life
then yearn for tranquility and comfort
or at least the ability to move to safety

there is still hope…

self-care is a must
an escape quite possibly necessary
clarity just within reach
as long as we stretch out our hands

don’t hesitate to resolve…

but swallowing feelings
pushing them down
deeper and deeper over time
builds a cesspool within

you will begin to sink…

seeking the transient warming from spirits
diving headfirst into liquid oblivion
they say, self-medication
in reality, self-destruction

addiction can kill
if we let it

Civilization

Civilization …. by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

When man started establishing permanent settlements, they needed to develop way to dispose of human waste and originally, it was buried it in the ground.  Maybe the idea came from watching cats digging a hole and burying their waste.  Most early civilizations were established near rivers, which not only provided a source of fresh water for irrigation, but also a method for waste elimination.  The ironclad rule was to always dump downstream!  Cesspools were designed in areas that not connected to rivers and they would receive and hold sewage for human waste.  They were frequently placed under the floors of castles that were often made of wood.  A cesspool consisted of an underground hole lined with brick or stone and porous material.  Excrement sank to the bottom and liquids flowed out between the spaces in the brick lining.  The waste could not just be flushed away, so when the cesspool got full…

Stepping into filth but keeping pristine

Let the striking image draw you in the depth of the poem.

My friend Sadje is again first this week 🙂

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

Step carefully into this filth

Keep you clothes clean, pristine

Get involved but don’t immerse yourself

For making friends with slime, will result in

Sucking you into this cesspool of grime and slime

Everyone avoids situations which can muddy their reputations

Which can make their hands dirty and clothes splattered

But bystanders can not hope to fix the leaking gutters

One has to wrestle with the broken pipes after standing in the waste

Just don’t let the stench pervade your soul or spirit

Keep it at arms distance and away from your mind

The cesspool of humanity needs fixing up collectively

as if unboxing a present,
bottled feelings-
emerge in subtle time,
bubbling, seething, frothing-
effervescences on its fringes- irrationality,
as tepid sobriety fizzles out.

The nature of Freedom #RXC

The nature of freedom …. By Jude Itakali

judeitakali's avatarTales Told Different

Disclaimer: The thoughts below are not meant to offend and are open to criticism and debate.

Sometimes I ponder freedom as a concept. I watch both its chosen and self-proclaimed disciples. Those that want it, those that need it, and those who have been better off without it.
What does the blood of conquerors do with freedom, but to wreak havoc upon all others.
In a land of many tribes with many languages, and many beliefs, will choice represent freedom, or will it bring anarchy?
Can anyone hold the patent to what freedom should be?
Should anyone impose their way upon another?

The ways of this world
evolve with changing knowledge
But the cores are wise
they have stood the test of time
Identities set in stone

Is freedom a thing like Death, profound and meant for all?
And if it is like death, then the way we perceive it…
