The truth is out there.

The truth is out there ….by Melissa Lemay

Melissa Lemay's avatarMom With a Blog

All around her, people flashed off and on like slides on overhead projectors, each time reappearing in a different, fixed position. The grocery store’s aisles weren’t any more or less crowded than a typical day; people spattered the produce section. They had been perusing the stockpiles of Red Delicious apples, Anjou pears, Haas avocados, checking for bruises, when the lights came down.

She had never seen anything like this. A blinding light covered everything as far as she could see, or rather, not see. Time stopped. People began blinking in and out of existence, in the nature of turn signals, each one going at its own rate, but all blinking. She didn’t understand why she was an exception.

She had crouched down next to a giant cardboard cutout of Donald Trump holding a can of mixed nuts in each hand—a new ad campaign for Emerald. She had noticed his hair…

Wile E. Coyote Never Had a Chance

Wile E.Coyote never had a chance ….by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

Reena had two picture prompts today and since I have some time left, I decided to take on the picture that looked like a silhouette of a runner to me, but I am really not sure what it is and perhaps it is a dancer.  Anyways, as I drove to the grocery store, I was listening to that Holland–Dozier–Holland song ‘(I’m a) Road Runner’, which was first released by Junior Walker & the Allstars in 1966.  The cover that I herd was on a CD titled Garcia Live Volume Five, anyway it made me think of this picture and it is a cool song.  I read that Walker was a road warrior, constantly touring and performing, and Motown Records had a hard time getting him into the studio to record this, because he was always out on the road.

The road runner is not a bird in this song…

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #282- The Weight of Time

The Weight of Time ….by Susan St.Pierre

Susan St.Pierre's avatarSillyfrog's Blog

It is entirely your choice to use either one or both of the images as prompts.
I chose the image below.

Prudence became momentarily frantic while searching for her cellphone. She needed to know the time!
How long had she been ambling along the serene, wooded path?
What time IS it?!
“Okay Prudy, breathe…just breathe.”

Moments ago, she’d watched chipmunks scurrying in and out of a tree trunk. But for “How long?” She still grasped a little of a blissful, weightless, freedom. She hadn’t known the time and, for once, didn’t care. But now, Prudence needed to know!
She’d been a slave to time since… well, forever. Forever was indisputably a long time and “NOW” couldn’t work without the anchor of a clock. Everything needed a time stamp- a before and after. It was the lifeline and essential compass that sustained her.

A distant voice came out of nowhere…

deemed the wisest
of all creations
no doubt it’s us
we wonderful humans 😉

racing ahead of time
looking back not once
to savor the moments
left behind 🙄
chasing behind time
always peeking back
missing the moments
set up ahead 😒
always wondering
will I make it
forever asking
how much time left ⏳

eventually we must stop 😔
racing ceases
chasing halts
with pieces of the past
and fragments of the future
we stand in the present
forced to face time ⌚
to look and really see
that we actually stand
with hands empty 🤲

we can never go back
I’ve asked, you see 😉
we can not go forward
I’ve tried, really 🤭

placed in this moment
I’ve come to see
all that’s present
is now only 🤍

Time Is Going Out of Sync

Time is going out of sync

A lot to learn from Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, Earth rotated once around its axis in 1.59 milliseconds less than 24 hours, and this was faster than scientists had ever previously recorded since records began in the 1960s.  July 26 neared the newly-set record, at 1.50 milliseconds shorter than usual.  The previous record for the shortest rotation was July 19, 2020, when the Earth’s rotation took 1.4602 milliseconds less than 24 hours.  Ever since its formation around 4.5 billion years ago, our Earth had been gradual slowing down its rotation, and this has resulted in adding about 2.3 milliseconds to the length of each day every 100 years.  The Earth’s rotational speed fluctuates constantly for multiple reasons, the moon and Earth’s gravitational pull on each other, the moon’s effect on the tides on Earth, and changes in the weather and climate on Earth.  Many experts believe that the earth is spinning faster due to…

When you try to overtake time

When you try to overtake time .,…by Sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

This week Reena has given us these 2 images to work with;

Setting the alarm every day

I try to overtake the morning hassle

Perhaps getting up earlier would help

Five minutes early, every morning— I try

Sometimes it happens, other days — not

A constant struggle to fit 25 hours natural rhythm

Into the 24 hours given to us for each day

Keeps us on our proverbial toes, always struggling

In trying to overtake this tick-tock, I run ragged

Maybe one day I will win this race against time

Fingertip Ghosts

Fingertip Ghosts …. by Kat

Kat's avatarENIGMA

I have this letter

Deep in my drawer

A message that hasn’t seen

The light of day.

The sender’s address

Says my favourite name

The one I loved from far away.

Her eyes are a memory now

The blue in them; a stubborn ache

But before she passed,

I bared my heart,

In a wondrous sombre willow haze.

Same yellow paper

Rough under the palm

Same names curled under the stamp

Same sentiments inside?

Perhaps.

I’ve never been famous

For my courage

And I lack it greatly in this case

It’s futile now

To break this seal

And tear at beginnings beyond repair.

Perhaps, one day

When I’m yellowing

I’ll take my chance

With this wax

And kiss the ghosts of her fingertips

A proper and final goodbye.

The Envelope

The Envelope …. by Aboli Mane

Aboli Mane's avatarA Writer In The Room

The study was off-limits for Dolly. The pigtailed troublemaker had an inquisitive nature, fuelled by her natural curiosity. The most recent object of her curiosity, was the vintage sealed envelope on her father’s study table.

The crimson waxed seal was tempting at best. Dolly’s imagination soared at the possibility. However, she knew she could not act alone. Father always kept the study locked. And try as she might, she could never figure where he hid the keys. Her feet took her to her brother’s room. Bhaiya lay under the whirring fan, stretched out on the floor with a sports magazine. It was rare to find him at home in the afternoons.

“Bhaiya.” Dolly bounced impatiently on her feet as she approached the middle brother. “I want to know what’s in that envelope on Papa’s study table.” Bhaiya looked up from the sports magazine he was perusing. His face flickered with…
