Nomenclature

“The name is Homo Sapiens, and it gives no inkling about the persona of the applicant - race, religion, gender, colour whatever…. The picture gives no clue either.” “At least you know, it’s not a plant or animal." “C’mon … stop cracking silly jokes. The selection criteria includes diversity and many other quotas. Unwashed jokes

Björn Rudberg (brudberg)'s avatarBjörn Rudbergs writings

Some nights the aged librarian
will leave his library alone
to meet his mistress in
the cheap motel across the road,
those nights he lets
the moon sojourn
alone and by herself

; and as she waddle
through the halls
dressed in lace and leather
she will chuckle,
to coax the high-strung literary voices
from the shelves
to share stories from the
deep recess of entrails:
at such nights the books forget
the thrill of romance,
crimes and wars and drama of deceit,
and like toddlers giggle
at the heroes’ minuscule “details”
faeces and salacious poetry
spilled on filthy toilet doors.

Later when the dawn arrives,
on slippers
the moon has left without a trace —
and returning, the aged librarian
finds his books
sluggish,
silent,
soft,
subdued, but
in the halls the moon has left
her size fourteen stiletto footprints
and the muffled reek of unwashed jokes.

Warfare

The Prize is being given for a discovery, not an invention. The scientist calls it an ‘act of God’ and not his creation. A new breed of insects discovered feed on viruses (not the man-made computer ones). They are fed the deadliest ones and its mutants, and the tiny insects appear to thrive on those.  … Continue reading Warfare

Creativity

Did Adam, Eve and all living forms in the garden of Eden have a genetic code? Maybe the code existed only in the Master Creator’s consciousness. The secondary nature of my being compels me to depend on elements that exist somewhere in the universe. Creativity is nothing but putting together the alphabet in different ways. … Continue reading Creativity

Empowered Women's avatarEmpowered Women

Support competent women

Support women by all means, but competent ones. Choose those who’ve been overlooked for other reasons. If you hold power, hold space for them.

Accept men as mentors

You are not the only one. All those men you see at the top are mentored by other men. It is just that maximum power is held by men on corporate structures.

We need to keep moving till women are seen in larger numbers at the top.

Don’t be afraid of standing out

I saw dislike in people’s eyes whenever I offered to do something that other women shied away from. Being one of the masses will give you short-term acceptance in social groups and nothing more.

Let others deal with their sense of inadequacy. We’re not here to make everyone comfortable.

Be weary of being used as a tool

Male bosses will try to put you in the…

Invisible goddesses

The drama next door is considered worth watching, where a recently widowed woman is seen suspended behind a powerful stream of words, “Don’t underestimate my pent-up rage and hatred of 30 years, against the patriarchal system. In every lifetime, you will encounter a Durga or Kali with a Trishul to shred your puny ego into … Continue reading Invisible goddesses

You’re being watched

“Get me all reports on the espionage case.” I notice a change. There is caution in his usually stern, authoritative voice. “All fine, Sir?” “Get used to changes.” He points at the camera installed in his plush office, concealing the gesture. “Yes, Sir! You’ll have it in an hour.” I walk out with a new … Continue reading You’re being watched
