Final Moments

Envelopes labeled “fragments,” “Memories,” “wounds,” “Secret,” and “fragments Secret” surround glowing broken porcelain.

my broken parts inside bags, known only to me
get rattled by mockery, abuse and react
I encase them in covers, pretty and inert
to flatter unnamed others; to silence my depths

appreciated masks preen, assumed perfection
harmonious avatars disguise turbulence
the end of celebration demands peaceful sleep
peeled layers of approval fall by the wayside
