She stubbornly refused to let the kids go out. She insisted they were allergic to sunlight.
“You’ve returned after decades. Only I know how I’ve raised them.”
He couldn’t gather the courage to talk about his amnesia. He did not recall having a family, but was learning to accept them. He often wondered what made him like this old cottage enough to buy it. Maybe he belonged here.
He stopped in his tracks on hearing whispers in the garden.
“We’ve tended the garden for ages, and now she wants us to leave.”
“Look at her audacity. She told me I’m dead and should retreat to the graveyard.”
“Audacious indeed …. She behaves as if she and her children are alive, just because that husband of hers has returned in a reincarnation.”
The dead were settling in under their mud roof and something was shuffling overhead.

A brilliantly mysterious story, almost like they are vampires, and she tells them they are allergic to sunlight, so they don’t escape.

The opening sentence is a great hook, Reena, and I smiled at the missing father returning with amnesia. But what a twist is the husband returning in a reincarnation!

A very clever circulus piece, well-worked, fitting the prompt line right in. Really, quite cleverlydone.
