The highlighted text calls again from fluttering pages. I can’t be caught on the wrong foot, while talking to a person I’ve admired for decades.
fluttering pages call
steps trace imagined voices,
doorways turn to truth
My favourite author has moved to a place closer to mine. It feels strange, as mentally, I’ve always felt closer than that. I’ve imagined conversations where I felt she was writing about something I’ve lived through.
closer than I thought
the author I’ve admired
writes my awkward silence
What is that common thread we share? Will we connect in the same way – face-to-face in real life?
appointment confirmed
from my doorstep to her door,
threads of fate entwine

What a dream come true, Reena.

It is amazing how we can feel such closeness with an author through her writing… and imagine to becoming closer in real as well.

The line ‘from my doorstep to her door, threads of fate entwine’ captures that magical, nervous threshold so perfectly! As Sheknowsallblog and mihrankalaydjianblog mentioned in the comments, turning years of imagined conversations into a real face-to-face meeting is such a surreal moment. Wishing you a truly wonderful encounter, Reena!

My philosopher-guide used to be Ayn Rand. Now of course, her views on world politics and capitalist economies look outdated.

Interesting. I have her books here to read one day. What was it about her that made her your guide for a moment in time?

Being born in a culture she could not like or accept, her philosophy about capability being above the privilege of birth or placement, respect for the individual rather than a social system.

Reena – what a tender piece of writing- beautifully structured capturing a very specific, magical kind of intimacy between a reader and an author they deeply admire 🩷

You’ve written the nervousness and magic of this perfectly the author who has lived in your mind, who has spoken to your life through words, now suddenly becomes a person with a doorstep. What a beautiful convergence. The appointment confirmed feels like fate saying yes. I hope the real conversation echoes everything the imagined ones promised.

Beautifully expressed, Reena! 💙 There is something magical about finally meeting someone whose words have touched your life for so many years. I especially love the mixture of excitement, nervousness, and wonder you capture here. May the real conversation be every bit as meaningful as all those imagined ones. ✨📚

It is a double-edged sword. At times, the work is excellent, but the person disappoints.
