A couple of years ago, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were attracting attention, and the high amount of electricity consumed by crypto-mining was a huge concern.
Indian crypto investors faced their battles as crypto exchanges were raided by the Government. They discovered that money was illegally routed to other countries through these exchanges. The income tax rate on gains through cryptocurrency trading was hiked to 30%.
I’m sure money still moves through these channels, but the hoopla around it has died down.

The next concern is hundreds of millions of gallons of water consumed by AI data centres.

Then came the objections. Indians do not like disposing of used vehicles in the junk. There is a huge market for used vehicles, and it was predicted that EVs would have no resale value. Hybrid vehicles were recommended as being the ideal choice.
The Iran war compelled a relook, and EVs are back in the prime market.

So it looks like the world will continue to create problems and then solve them for some time. The wheels of commerce run on it. Research scientists earn accolades for solving a problem that should not have existed in the first place.

Beyond efficiency and cost savings, cogeneration units can serve as decentralised power sources that keep critical facilities—like hospitals, data centres, and universities—running during grid outages. Because they generate both electricity and heat on-site, these systems reduce dependence on centralised grids and can be paired with renewable fuels or biogas to further enhance sustainability. AI data centers need to be constructed so they don’t contaminate the water they use. I like the idea of decentralized energy systems, as there are a lot of lightning storms here in Florida and I think this will help with power outages.
