the final year grade sheet
once applauded
yellowing in old files
the name on the epitaph
my favorite teacher
acknowledges the flowers
she does not have my number saved
we used to visit each other
unannounced
new buildings mock
memories buried
beneath development

Sometimes old buildings are buried beneth new development.
I was just reading that (somewhere) they were beginning to dig a new foundation and found a very old civilization where they did not expect it.
It is sad when I think about some of my wonderful teachers, who by now are …stardust.

Each of these stand alone, and together they describe a lifetime so relatable. Beautifully crafted.

Reena, I love how small details tell us so much, and “we used to visit each other / unannounced” made me miss the friends who once felt like family.

We come across classmates in Whatsapp groups and find that we have grown in different directions. But that is how it is, and no point in expecting anything different.

Growing up can diminish our sense of excitement. Still, there are times when we wistfully revisit those memorable moments.
‘ new buildings mock memories buried beneath development’ I can relate to this.

I agree. I can’t recognise the place I grew up in. The lanes are replaced by broad roads, and a few houses/cottages have disappeared.

Ah! Reena the connections between youth and people stretch to a thin thread of memory! This is a touching poem!

An insightful poem Reena. Things change and what was a very important achievement becomes routine.

Indeed we lose that childlike wonder we use to have

Hi Reena. I see several moments captured. Moments that remind us that life never stands still. Moments that remind us that youth and childhood are but distant memories.
Thank you so much for these very poignant images.

Thank you! These are separate pieces, not a single poem.

Yes, that is how I read them… as separate moments. Quite good.
