Action without Expression

Who would have decided her place in the world and what she was supposed to do with her life – geography, lineage, personal values, philosophy of life, political leanings, relationship status, money?

Each contributes in a small way, but only she knew how to put it all together to make sense of her existence.

She didn’t have to ask for the rights to function as a mature adult with an independent thought process.

Patriarchy attempted to control her life, and she floated away into the unknown, knowing well the risks that lay ahead, yet choosing to face and overcome them.

She broke out of her skin to escape identity and mingled with different energies in the universe to carve a niche for herself.

The world is not kind to her in the obituaries because she never spoke up and put forth her point of view.

  1. while the extent of the patriarchy is nearly beyond measure (or distinction of the myriad of ‘you’re this, not that’ statements… I liked your reply about how ‘if you don’t write your own story, someone else will’

how we relate ourselves to the world around us and the people who make it up can be trickier than it seems as the first step to know ourselves first and then we have a place to stand when coming up against the world

(on an unrelated(ish) note: would you like your usual alcove (at the SSC&B) reserved for you next week? or, perhaps will you be participating? it says Poetry Slam… but the form is free and quite casual)

      1. ‘stop in’

or, if the spirit moves you, write yourself/your character/your virtual-other up on the stage and do whatever is done at a Poetry Slam in the ‘real’ world*

as with most things in the Café, it is what appeals to you the most given the virtual setting…

no set Rules but you get the ‘theme’ virtual limit-stretching

*full disclosure: have never been to one in reallife but have participated in one at the SSC&B a few years ago

  2. Reena, that last line it cuts. She carved her own path, lived boldly, faced the risks… but the world didn’t get her story because she didn’t tell it herself. There’s something tragic and true in that. And yet she lived. She knew who she was. Sometimes that has to be enough. 💙

    Much love,
