once in a lifetime
you will turn back and look
at the footprints of bleeding feet
with volcanoes threatening to burst
inside you; and you will know it has been
a long way. It is time to chuck it all
like a traveller does, in absence of return fare
settle down in the shade, to be cool
and invisible
once in a lifetime
the light will call, and you will
choose to merge with it
rather than shine

An outstanding piece, Reena – so creative and realistic.

There is something soothing about the thought to settle down after a struggle.

Yes. It is the hope everyone survives on.

Shade has dual meaning, hence, I chose it.

Stunning and poignant, Reena. The image of the ‘footprints of bleeding feet with volcanoes threatening to burst’ is powerful. I love the shift from the heat of volcanoes to shade to light.
