One glance was enough to say she was not her usual self – dishevelled hair, runny mascara, lipstick in ageing lines around the mouth.
“Another late night, I presume … you slept without removing your makeup?”
She made an effort to adjust the strap on her shoulder, but the slip hanging below her knees was a bit too obvious.
“Will you let me stay in your vacation home for a few weeks?”
I almost knew what was coming next: “Whom are you running away from?”
I had been envious of her superlative dressing, precious jewels and fancy cars, but her answer was what I did not wish to hear: “The debt recovery agents.”

Time to reevaluate that relationship abd set some boundaries. Rocky ship swirling in a widening whirlpool…

I do wonder about some of the very different folks – that have palaces or homes bigger than some small states! Are they really happy?

Everything comes home to roost sooner or later. It’s why we are so focused on getting this last bit of debt done and taking on no more.

Those who incur debt keep helping someone else to make money – the sellers of goods or debt consolidation services.

True. There was a show called Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives on Netflix. I’m not on Netflix, but whatever my friends described was utter crap.

and that happens to a lot of people to whom “looks” and “status” is important… Even so that they rather have a fancy phone than food for their kids ( a true story btw… )…

Now that was an interesting story. Not removing her make-up before going to bed? Dear, dear!

The superlative dressing, precious jewels and fancy cars aren’t worth getting into debt to get.

I remember the case of a British icon – Fifty Cents, who was neck deep in debt because he said the image of a star needs to be cultivated.

being hooked into the cycle of culture’s demand for conformance combined with late-stage capitalism cheating workers at every turn… not a good thing.
of course the debt is but a symptom

Celebrities flaunt “sponsored” or “sourced” outfits, and convey a wrong picture for emulation.
