Shadows lengthened

She did not know what delicate meant until she felt the pressure and assessed her capacity to withstand it.

She did not fear Power until the intense heat threatened to wither her away.

She made no effort to avert deceit because she did not see a reason for anyone wanting to harm her.

Curiosity drove her to venture into the unknown, and then survival instincts toughened her up.

The world outside labelled her manipulative.

She refused to let others overstep boundaries, and they called her dominating.

They ignored the difference between action and reaction as mirrors frightened them.

Shadows lengthened.

  1. I’ve been reading some ‘stories’ based on true events (so ‘they’ say) about how some people attempt to trod on others. But the person they trod on either comes back stronger or has to leave a marriage where the husband (or wife or other) has taken the place of the partner.

I think we need to let go of others expectations. Let them write their own book. Of what I’ve read, most of those others end up eating crow… because they had a fasle sense of entitlement. Like the to be Mother-in-law who changed the bride to be’s food, music, table seating and even bridge-maids. Thankfully in that case the husband stood by her.

      1. There was a time when parents say was the only way. But even in my own grandparents generation – one grandmother divorced her husband – not a thing normally done at that time. Now some couples barely make it ten or even five years.

As a parent I try to only give advice when asked. It is hard to see mistakes made, but that is how one learns. Years of traditions are hard to break. But with the onset of the internet all peoples see different ways to live and seek more freedoms of choice.
