I pull my pet away as she proceeds to smell soggy leaves after the first monsoon shower, and keep her on the concrete path. The people who vouch for walking barefoot on grass or sand have their feet clad in shoes.
I wonder what has gone down with the dust into wet soil, and what might emerge later. Are silent seeds dreaming of rains smiling now? I might soon see a lone leaf or flower emerging from cracks, like an answered prayer.
I see fading sunlight reflected in the droplets on a large leaf. Someone is handing over charge.

I feel that there is a lot of promise in rain on parched soil

This year has been particularly bad with a delayed monsoon. Finally, the rains arrived.

I enjoyed your haibun, Reena, and the thought of your ‘soggy leaves after the first monsoon shower’, refreshing in the current heatwave over here. I also love the thought of ‘silent seeds dreaming of rains smiling’ and  the simile of ‘a lone leaf or flower emerging from cracks, like an answered prayer’.
