The Journey of “I”

The MTB prompt at dVerse hosted by Laura Bloomsbury asks us to play with definitions.

The lyrical prompt line by Bob Dylan I have chosen is

I write on these spindrift pages

a simple pronoun, but at the centre of existence
and all conflicts in the world.
(Is it possible to relate to something without this I?)

started with inscribing symbols on stone,
moved on to quills and ink, ball pens,
keyboards and voice-to-text.
records of elusive thoughts
and forgettable events.
(The I provides a perspective, but is being diluted)

the pressure to remain alive and alert
a foundation to place your perspectives,
verdicts,
genetic or acquired traits.
(It validates what I think)

the plural for things close to the speaker,
while ‘those’ watch from a distance.
It can breed contempt or nepotism
or loyalty.
a kind of trap that you love
or want to escape
(It remains closely related to the location of I)

pulverised form
of something that makes sense
but now wants to penetrate
the universality of existence
test its validity
in different stratospheres
(The I is now dissolving in ether)

The landing space for thoughts,
enhance visibility
and build connections
they might change the impact
with background patterns
(These are far more inclusive than I)
