I will remember
what the water gave me
without drenching me to the bones
-secrets of transparency
-blocks in fluency
-the highs of stories
in ocean depths
invisible, but approachable
if someone dives deep enough
-reflections of the sky
creating wistfulness
That boat on the horizon
promises a journey to unknown worlds
yet keeps sailing out of reach
as if it has lost its compass
Water made me aware
of human limitations
and the infinite nature
of God’s spells

I can see all the uncreachable possibilities in that sea.

If you can see, you can find a way to reach.

A delightful celebration of water, Reena. A good friend and I went for a guided trip around Hickling Broad on the Norfolk Broads on Friday, and your poem captured some of the feelings I had, particularly the ‘reflections of the sky creating wistfulness’; the promise of ‘a journey to unknown worlds’; ‘human limitations and the infinite nature of God’s spells’.

I loved your poem and I agree that water is a wonderul metaphor for life. It is onne I made use of in my last book..If I Were Water and You Were Air.

Water is everywhere, and water is mysterious. It is essential for life, and can also damage life.
