Fated

There was only way to counteract the missiles being fired by stupid earthlings – drop a spark from the Divine Flame on the monstrous decision-makers to disempower them.

She crept into the cavern where the gods kept their flame, her hands trembling with both awe and hunger.

The masquerade she wore was stitched from mortal shadows, but it sagged under the weight of her mortal breath.

She thought she could swing it off, carry the blaze as if it were hers by right, but the fire burned too fiercely for her fragile disguise.

The guardians of light saw her falter, and the veil of boldness dissolved into ash.

Her crime was not theft but the attempt to cross into a realm where power cannot be borrowed or delegated, nor can destiny of a planet be changed.

  1. stealing power from the powerful… surely not is more difficult. they (the powerful) guard it without limit, and then, were one to succeed, would they in turn be transformed into something equally destructive of the masses.

    they say (well, Lord Acton said) ‘Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ would a woman be immune from that effect.
