Passage of Time

The past stares back
like a portrait
frozen on outdated canvas
disconnected with the rhythm of time
and all the waves that consumed us
like tsunamis
imposing change
compelling us to refresh
and grow

the portrait lies faded on the shore
with peeling paint
dysmorphed elegance
wishing to be submerged
in oceanic depths
and letting ships of change
float over it

The canvas
burdened with obsolescence
awaits dismantling of threads
to weave a new story
but
alas….

  1. What an opening simile, Reena! Expanded on, it resonates with the expectancy or at least desire for change, delayed, and then fading. This is such a charged poem with layers of meaning that want to be explored. Is the past ready for a sea-change? Is such a desired inevitability out of reach? On a cultural level at least for me, it seems so, perhaps even on an individual level. But I hope not.
