Silhouetted against the deep grey sky, we turn into wispy shadows.
Evenings on the beach are scary, as they make us aware of our smallness.
The high tides will cover everything on the golden sands, leaving behind a residue of jellyfish and water snakes.
We will walk cautiously again, waiting for the sunrise, and get ready to sail away.
The fishermen know. They watch fish gasping for breath every day, a shared vulnerability.
The fishermen know. They will starve if the ocean breathes.
The fishermen fear that an underwater creature will spew fire someday, to consume them and the sun.

A very good write, Reena, with wonderful imagery.

Great write Reena – and this is exactly how I feel standing against the ocean ‘Evenings on the beach are scary, as they make us aware of our smallness.’ 🙌

Yes, we all live with different myths about the sea and its creatures. The fisherman’s tale is always entertaining.
