“Hitch your wagon to mine, and you’ll never be disappointed,” he would often brag in an inebriated state. It gradually became clear that he was referring only to organizational freebies, nothing more.
“There is no choice but to do things as they are done here,” yelled a cruder version of the monstrosity called a boss.
Many felt the ground slipping from beneath their feet, but I found myself moving to a firmer terrain, away from toxicity.
Tagging along makes no sense when you know both the map and the territory. The only choice is to trace our path, own and walk it, till you reach somewhere or your legs give way to pessimism.
There really is no shortcut to living an independent life, whatever the gurus say.

There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going, is that where your title came from? It’s appropriate to the story.
As to the pessimism, it also gets you nowhere.

A lifetime of experience is usually much better than corporate claptrap, in my opinion!😉🤭

True that. But corporate claptrap leaves deep marks on the psyche.

as so often happens, your Six stimulates that part of my mind that identifies with the search for (fill in the blank)
Also an excuse to repeat a phrase from my own favorite writer in matters of this nature, Carlos Castenada. He refers (to what I get from your Six) as the effort ‘to find the Path with Heart’ .
the search is always a solo effort. we can be aided by hearing of the journeys of others as a way of refreshing our energy
