Life is movement, but life is not always progress. We do slip back and catch up.
What was unfathomable for me is life coming to a grinding halt, and it’s not death. These gasps, these moments of stillness, were not accounted for in my life goals.
A change of geography and culture taught me how to include and make the most of these breaks. Not yesterday, I learned to know the love of bare November days before the coming of the snow.
It gives me some time to plan, to breathe before getting under covers to hibernate.
I’ve learned to plan and dream of light and warmth. It ensures I don’t slip into an endless realm of darkness or hopelessness.
It’s these small moments of joy, like my pets curled up on my fur-clad feet, that remind me of warmth at the other end.

Smiled at your “hibernate” line for that is what I love doing .. dreading the long dark cold winter. Sadly there is not enough time for hibernation in my life. Nice write, Reena.

FOMO keeps us away from hibernation 😊

I have always lived in this world, and I know that sometimes the only remedy is staying warm inside… but the darkness is what gets me more.

Nicely done, Reena. Those abrupt stops in life can help us slow down a bit.
We had that experience this past week when I came down with Covid on Friday and Ruth got it on Monday. We are both pretty much house bound for the next week as it runs its course!
Have a great week!

Your opening paragraph is so true, Reena, and I have experienced something similar with a change of geography and culture. What a relief to be able to ‘plan and dream of light and warmth’. The ‘small moments of joy, like my pets curled up on my fur-clad feet’ truly resonate with me.
