Spaces

I was told water finds its level, but no one warned me that the subconscious does not.

It fills up uneven places—behind the eyes, beneath the lungs, blocking oxygen, struggling to find its space in speech, in the silence between words.

It disregards all the logic I was raised on — logic that connects me to the world I know. I’m shocked by the demons inside me, torn by conflict and pulled by destinations I never find.

They say water flows, adapts, yields – I have tried. I have bent. I have broken.

Alas, I am solid matter, not water.

  1. We will always have challenges and choices. Too often we are blinded by not being in balance. We don’t have to be water… We do need to be honest with ourselves. Well thought and well written, Brava!

  2. as Mr. Frank is wont to do, he got to (a part) of the line that spoke to me the loudest:

all the logic I was raised on — logic that connects me to the world I know.

I will however italicize* the portion (of the sentence) that spoke to me the loudest

as Castaneda reminds us ‘the world is a feeling’.
