I was told water finds its level, but no one warned me that the subconscious does not.
It fills up uneven places—behind the eyes, beneath the lungs, blocking oxygen, struggling to find its space in speech, in the silence between words.
It disregards all the logic I was raised on — logic that connects me to the world I know. I’m shocked by the demons inside me, torn by conflict and pulled by destinations I never find.
They say water flows, adapts, yields – I have tried. I have bent. I have broken.
Alas, I am solid matter, not water.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Very insightful and thought-provoking.

Excellent piece, Reena. Your second stanza really grabbed me.
“It fills up uneven places… struggling to find its space in speech, in the silence between words.”

We adapt, until the moment comes we don’t, and it’s never easy.

That is so true. Each of us has a different breaking point.

Wow! Brilliant. Anyone with the slightest ego cannot flow, adapt, or yield. Water has no ego, perhaps.

If it adapts to the shape of containers, it certainly has less of an ego.

We will always have challenges and choices. Too often we are blinded by not being in balance. We don’t have to be water… We do need to be honest with ourselves. Well thought and well written, Brava!

Ooh, this is a good one – logic when asleep. Very interesting.

as Mr. Frank is wont to do, he got to (a part) of the line that spoke to me the loudest:
all the logic I was raised on — logic that connects me to the world I know.
I will however italicize* the portion (of the sentence) that spoke to me the loudest
as Castaneda reminds us ‘the world is a feeling’.

And, the subconscious is not always to be trusted.

You are right. The subconscious is based on perceptions, not the real stuff.
