They found her in a car park – her hair dishevelled, her appearance woebegone. But she carried self-respect instead of a begging bowl, and refused to accept alms.
They promised to give her work and took her home. They fed her, clothed her and lent some makeup to boost her confidence.
Soon, she disappeared with the valuables from the house.
Her tears? Practiced.
Her soul? Untraceable.
She left behind a sense of guilt for falling prey to cons.

Oh no! That really was very sad. She broke the trust of people trying to help her and perhaps they won’t help anyone deserving of help again.

In Bombay local trains, we used to say be careful if a girl stands too close to a man. She might be a pickpocket. Then, the trend moved to Tinder crimes – people invited on dates were looted.

That’s very unfortunate. It was the same when a friend’s daughter went on honeymoon with her husband to Italy. A young girl hugged the man and stole his wallet.
