Exorcism

it takes lifetimes
to cross the thresholds
of imposed values

I move on the periphery
of concentric circles
getting mired deeper
in intricacies
of a strange culture
unknown, unacceptable
with a vice-like grip
on breathing patterns

it takes maelstroms
to deplete the lungs
of life-force

I practice Pranayam
to cleanse my existence
trapped in rituals
not of my making
long-limbed shadows
encircle every move
to exhale carbon
spread darkness

it takes an exorcist
to drive out demons
-live just for once
