What was the whistleblower thinking when he typed the incendiary email? What kind of superpower did he assume he would be blessed with?
The bloke was not aware that money will continue to exchange hands till every protesting voice was silenced; everybody has a price; one should know how to assess and pay it.
When the stakes are high, morality takes a walk.
He ruminates over his erstwhile confidence and the firm foundations he thought he was building, as he examines the dilapidated walls of his prison cell.
The whistleblower won the battle; it was only a matter of time.

If you win against them, they will somehow, someway, make sure you are a loser in some form. Shameful, isn’t it.

Absolutely. I just replied to Liz on the same subject.

No good deed goes unpunished? Sorry, I’m cynical about the whistleblower’s chances for freedom…π

And unfortunately, you are right.
I was following Richard Bowen, the Citigroup whistleblower, on LinkedIn. He enumerated the woes he has suffered after blowing the lid.

The newly appointed MD of a bank had set up a special email address for employees to share concerns with him. Nobody ever got a solution. He gathered information which could be used for his manipulative tactics later on.

“When the stakes are high, morality takes a walk“
all too common an equation in the current culture… of course, if the ‘stakes’ at staje are redefined, then perhaps things will change
