Today, I used AI to generate a prompt with specific inputs, and it turned out to be interesting. I’m sharing it with you without any changes.

The Archive of Forgotten Futures

Imagine a hidden archive tucked beneath a crumbling library, filled with letters, sketches, and diary entries from futures that never came to be—personal dreams, societal visions, technological hopes, or cultural shifts that were once imagined but never realised.

Prose: Write a short story or memoir-style piece from the perspective of someone discovering this archive. What future did they once believe in? What do they find that resonates or haunts them?

Poetry: Craft a poem that captures the emotional texture of a forgotten future—nostalgia, loss, resilience, or quiet acceptance.

Art: Create a visual piece that symbolises one of these lost futures. It could be surreal, symbolic, or documentary-style—perhaps a cityscape that never rose, or a family scene that never unfolded.

Prose Example: “The Last Letter from New Cascadia”

A retired urban planner discovers a letter she wrote to herself in 1995, envisioning a utopian city called New Cascadia powered entirely by wind and community gardens. The story alternates between her present-day reflections and excerpts from the letter, revealing how her hopes were reshaped by politics, climate, and personal compromise.

🎭 Poetry Example: “Blueprints in Dust”

A free verse poem written from the perspective of a child who grew up in the shadow of their parents’ unrealised dream—a solar-powered commune in Arizona. The poem weaves metaphors of cracked earth, faded blueprints, and the resilience of wildflowers reclaiming the land.

🎨 Art Example: “Echoes of the Sky Rail”

A mixed-media collage showing a futuristic monorail system that was once proposed but never built. The piece blends old newspaper clippings, architectural sketches, and ghostly silhouettes of commuters walking through empty stations. The colour palette shifts from hopeful blues to sepia-toned nostalgia.
