Seeds of change

Where did the seed come from?

What are the pains and joys that it inherits, nurtures and transfers?

The future gathers in vine, bush, and tree: Persimmon, walnut, loquat, fig, and grape, oblivious to its heritage. It gathers experience and impressions and takes them as the ultimate truth.

Genes are bearers of history that determine the future. Very few know that those impressions can be changed, and those who know are afraid to change them. Questions are being raised about the ethics of genetic manipulation, as parents might want to pre-order their progeny.

I wonder what the fears are related to – tampering with nature or distrust of redesign motives.

Why did nature leave a scope for redesign, if it does not want to be reinvented?

Closed books perish; open books change beyond recognition.

Are we harbingers of change, or erroneously believe that we are?

  1. This is gorgeously rendered, Reena! I love the wisdom you have infused here especially; “It gathers experience and impressions and takes them as the ultimate truth.” ❤️❤️

Thank you so much for writing to the prompt 😊

  2. It seems that we humans are getting a little too cocky about our ability to manipulate change. The ultimate consequences are yet unknown, but it’s very concerning to me.

Incisive line, Reena. Moderation may be best, but knowing human nature, that isn’t going to happen. Can we dominate nature’s way, or is this folly also part of nature’s way?

  4. This is profound and thought-provoking. You weave a complex tapestry of nature, legacy, and ethics with a poet’s touch. The central question—”Why did nature leave a scope for redesign, if it does not want to be reinvented?”—is a stunning and unanswerable paradox that sits at the heart of the entire piece. A truly brilliant meditation.
